Cuper tracking Karagounis Sunday 3 July, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spanish sources suggest that former Inter boss Hector Cuper wishes to be reunited with Giorgos Karagounis at Mallorca.

The Greek midfielder was signed by the Nerazzurri precisely on Cuper’s request in the summer of 2003, but the Coach was sacked a couple of months later.

28-year-old Karagounis has not been given much room to spread his wings at the San Siro under Alberto Zaccheroni or current boss Roberto Mancini and has also attracted interest from the Premiership.

According to Spanish newspaper ‘Marca’, Cuper hopes to use his rapport with Inter patron Massimo Moratti to sign the versatile Euro 2004 winner.

Argentine Coach Cuper has struggled since the October 2003 sacking and only just avoided relegation with Real Mallorca this term.

Potenza Signs For Mallorca
7/19/2005 9:33:00 PM

Mallorca have surprisingly announced that they have signed Alessandro Potenza from Inter leaving the promising Ivan Ramis to look for a new club.
Héctor Cúper declared that Potenza has become the Balearic club's fifth signing of the summer and that he will join the squad's pre-season training programme in Kossen in Austria after a medical.

The arrival of the Italian defender spells the end of Ramis' progress at Son Moix as Cúper explained that he has been told to look for a new club despite making 22 appearances for Mallorca last term.

"He needs to play regularly and to improve some aspects of his game," Cuper explained, hinting that a loan deal maybe the solution for Ramis.

"There are elements that he can improve on by playing games every week for another team."

Potenza, who has enjoyed loan spells with Chievo and Parma, is the fifth player to join Mallorca after Cúper has already brought in Toni Prats, Borja, Francisco Maciel and Fernando Navarro.

Corradi pining for Italy Friday 22 July, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bernardo Corradi has declined a move to Real Mallorca as he wants to return to Serie A.

The Valencia striker only moved to the La Liga outfit last summer when Claudio Ranieri was Coach.

However, he failed to settle in the Spanish League and the departure of Ranieri earlier in 2005 certainly didn’t help matters.

“Officially, nobody from Mallorca has spoken to us and we are only aware of this news from the Press,'' said his agent Moreno Roggi.

''Corradi is not interested in continuing to play in the Spanish League and he wants to return to Italy.''

Formerly of Lazio, Corradi had been heavily linked with a move to Premiership side Charlton Athletic.

However, the comments from his agent suggest that move is out of the question, but it remains to be seen where he will be playing his football next season.

Valencia are thought to be willing to allow Corradi to go out on loan for a year, making him a tempting proposition for the likes of Parma and Siena.

Mallorca in Atletico Madrid talks for Ibagaza
tribalfootball.com - August 25, 2005

Real Mallorca coach Hector Cuper is chasing Atletico Madrid midfield playmaker Ariel Ibagaza.

Cuper wants his fellow Argentine to add craft to his hard-working midfield and talks have opened between the two clubs.

Ibagaza is on the outer at Atletico following the arrival of new coach Carlos Bianchi and is open to a move to Mallorca. The stumbling is the midfielder's wages and Mallorca are trying to convince Atletico to cover a percentage of his salary for the coming season.

Meanwhile, Mallorca are close to sealing a deal for Rosenborg striker Frode Johnsen. The two clubs spent yesterday locked in negotiations over a fee for the 31 year-old Norway international.

Striker Choutos rejoins Inter Monday 30 January, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter look to have finally solved their shortage of attackers by bringing Lampros Choutos back to the club.

The Greek striker, 25, has rescinded his loan deal with Mallorca six months before it was set to expire.

The capture of the former Roma youth team star should now end the Nerazzurri’s search for a new forward.

Inter were looking to increase their options to cope with the African Cup of Nations absence of Obafemi Martins.

The club were all set to sign Chievo’s Victor Obinna as cover before he was also called up by the Nigerian squad.

Roberto Mancini’s outfit swooped once it became clear that Simone Inzaghi wouldn’t be joining on loan from Lazio.

Inter currently have only Adriano and Julio Cruz available as Alvaro Recoba is struggling with injury.

Cuper offers Mallorca resignation
tribalfootball.com - February 14, 2006

Hector Cuper offered his resignation to Real Mallorca president Grande Vicente yesterday.
AS says Cuper met with Vicente yesterday to discuss the club's position and offered to resign. Vicente refused to accept Cuper's offer and instead asked the Argentine to meet with him again today.

If Vicente can't talk Cuper around, Mallorca will install coach Tomeu Llompart as head trainer. Cuper's decision has caught Mallorca by surprise, with no shortlist of replacements having been drawn up by the board.

Mallorca rejected Tottenham offer for Arango
tribalfootball.com - March 16, 2006

Real Mallorca have rejected a £2.25 million offer from Tottenham for winger Juan Arango.
It's been revealed West Ham, Bolton and Spurs all made enquiries for the Venezuelan, but it was Tottenham that followed that up with a formal bid.

Mallorca president Grande Vicente rejected immediately the offer, but has kept the door open to a summer deal if Spurs are prepared to offer closer to £6 million.

Mallorca dismiss Arango to Spurs 'rumours'

Real Mallorca insist they have yet to receive a bid from Tottenham for star midfielder Juan Arango.

Reports in the Spanish press have strongly linked Arango with a summer move to White Hart Lane, and Mallorca's financial problems make it increasingly likely they will be forced to let the Venezuelan leave.

Tottenham were thought to be keen on the 25-year-old last summer prior to the player signing a new deal with Mallorca.

And although Tottenham have been rumoured to have bid £2.4million for the attack-minded player, Mallorca stress this is not the case.

'We have not received any offer for Juan, we only know the rumours,' a Mallorca spokesman told Sky Sports.

Arango has not hidden his desire to play in the Premiership but insists he wants to remain focused on Mallorca for the time being.

'My desire at the moment is to exclusively play and help the team and help them for another year in the Primera Division,' he said.

Meanwhile Tottenham coach Martin Jol is expecting a fight to the finish for the coveted fourth spot in the Premiership.

Tottenham remain two points clear of north London rivals Arsenal in the chase for a place in the final round of Champions League qualifying next season.

Jol's side reclaimed the position after their 2-0 victory over Birmingham at St Andrews on Saturday - their fifth away success this season.

But Jol believes the battle will go right to the wire as Arsenal, Bolton, Wigan and Blackburn continue to snap at their heels.

'We knew the other results had not gone for us before kick-off at St Andrews and this will be the case on many weeks,' admits Jol.

'We have to get our results and if we do that we won't have to focus on other teams. We need our wins, Arsenal, Blackburn, Bolton and Wigan will ensure it is a big battle until the end of the season.

'I am pleased that we managed to record our fifth away win of the season against Birmingham. I have said before that we need seven or eight away victories - along with a good home record - to be in a good position, so it will be exciting for us now.'

But Jol admitted he was disappointed with the way Tottenham gave away easy goals during February as they dropped points against Sunderland and Wigan.

Jol added: 'We got a clean sheet against Birmingham, a habit we had earlier in the season, but the month of February was very disappointing because we gave easy goals away.

'It is often about balance, we are still not there, but we are in fourth spot so there are a lot of positives.'

Meanwhile, Tottenham have once again denied they made a bid for Liverpool's Djibril Cisse just hours before the end of the January transfer window.

The club also insist they had never shown any interest in the striker despite claims by the player's agent to the contrary.

Cisse's agent, Ranko Stoijic, announced that he expected his client to leave Anfield this summer with White Hart Lane the likely destination.

Stoijic told France Football that Tottenham had also made a bid for the striker on January 31, but a spokesman for Tottenham said: 'We have never made an approach for Cisse and we have not had any interest in the player.'

The Frenchman's future at Anfield has been the subject of intense speculation after he failed to command a regular place in Rafael Benitez's plans, although he scored as a substitute in last night's 7-0 FA Cup rout of Birmingham.

Liverpool may opt to boost their striking options in the summer, fuelling suggestions that Cisse will be one of the players offloaded by the Merseysiders.

Inter debut summer signings Sunday 20 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maicon’s strike gave Inter victory over Real Mallorca as Patrick Vieira, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Fabio Grosso and Hernan Crespo made their debuts.

Coach Roberto Mancini fielded a three-man defence in the first half of the Trofeo Pirelli match in Spain, with former Juventus star Ibrahimovic partnering Adriano upfront and World Cup winner Grosso in a more advanced role.

However, the team struggled to create chances with this experimental tactic. In fact, Mallorca had the best opportunity when Arango rattled the crossbar.

When they switched to a 4-4-2 after the break, the Nerazzurri were far more effective and summer signing Maicon turned in Adriano’s cross with a strong right-foot finish.

Luis Figo also went close, while Arango wasted a good chance when he was clear on goal in front of Francesco Toldo.

Real Mallorca 0-1 Inter
Scorer: Maicon 66 (I)
Inter: Julio Cesar (Toldo 46); Cordoba, Materazzi (Andreolli 46), Samuel (Figo 63); Zanetti (Recoba 74), Vieira (Maicon 46), Dacourt (Maxwell 83), Cambiasso (Solari 66), Grosso (Cesar 46); Adriano (Crespo 75), Ibrahimovic (Cruz 46)

Atalanta eye Doni and Vieri Tuesday 22 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Serie A relegation candidates Atalanta are considering signing former players Christian Vieri and Cristiano Doni.

President Ivan Ruggeri is reportedly keen on bringing the duo back to Bergamo as he looks to finalise the newly promoted outfit’s summer transfer plans.

Vieri has allegedly offered his services to Atalanta after Juventus told his agent that they had no interest in signing him.

The former Azzurri striker, who played with the Bergamo outfit in 1995-96, is currently a free agent after he rescinded his contract with Sampdoria.

The club’s technical director Carlo Osti has admitted that the club is available to discuss a swoop with the player.

“We are pleased that Vieri’s name is associated to Atalanta,” said Osti on Tuesday.

“Our main goal is to avoid relegation in Serie B, but if such a great champion still wants to win something playing for minor sides, we would be glad to accept him.”

Doni is instead contracted to Mallorca, but is apparently having a hard time with Coach Gregorio Marzano and would favour a return to Italy.

The midfielder played for five seasons with Atalanta, from 1998 to 2003, netting 55 goals in 145 Serie A matches before he moved to Sampdoria.

He also won a call-up for the Nazionale in 2002, when Giovanni Trapattoni included him in the squad for the Japan and Korea World Cup.

I want Atalanta, says Doni Friday 25 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cristiano Doni is set to leave Mallorca after telling the Spanish outfit that he wants to play for former club Atalanta again.

The midfielder agreed a one-year contract extension with the Spanish side in July, but is apparently having a hard time with Coach Gregorio Marzano and would favour a return to Italy.

"In life you have priorities," explained Doni. "This is not about money, I wish to be closer to my family.

“I will lose money if I leave, but this is not a priority for me,” added the former Azzurri man. "Anyhow, if Mallorca don't understand my position, then I will stay."

Doni played for five seasons with Atalanta, from 1998 to 2003, netting 55 goals in 145 Serie A matches before he moved to Sampdoria.

The Bergamo outfit are also close to finalising a deal for Christian Vieri – another former Atalanta man.

The 33-year-old striker is scheduled to meet President Ivan Ruggeri on Monday when he could sign a minimum wage deal worth just over £1,000 a month.

Doni back at Atalanta Wednesday 30 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atalanta have completed the captures of Mallorca’s Cristiano Doni and former Cagliari player Nelson Abeijon.

Doni signed a two-year deal and will once again wear the Atalanta jersey after playing in Bergamo between 1998 and 2003 before moving to Sampdoria.

The 33-year-old had agreed a one-year contract extension with the Spanish side in July, but decided to return to Italy because of his difficult relationship with Coach Gregorio Marzano.

The former Italian international played 24 matches in last season’s Liga championship, netting just two goals.

Midfielder Abeijon has also finalised his move to Atalanta after accepting a one-year deal with the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia outfit.

The 33-year-old Uruguayan landed in Cagliari in 1998 and had remained there ever since apart from a six-month loan spell at Como in 2003.

Abeijon, who was currently a free agent after his contract with the Sardinian side expired, was also courted by Messina in the past few weeks.

The two new signings follow the arrival of former Atalanta man Christian Vieri, who joined the side he originally played for in 1995-96.
