Real Club Deportivo Mallorca are a Spanish football team from Palma de Mallorca. Founded on March 5 1916, they currently play in the Primera División.

They play in red shirts and black shorts with black socks. Home stadium is the Son Moix that seats 26,500 spectators.

The oldest club in the Balearic Islands, Mallorca was originally formed by Adolfo Vázquez, a republican engineer, who named the club Junta Directiva del Alfonso XIII FBC after the then king. The first stadium, inaugurated on March 25, was called the Buenos Aires, with a match against FC Barcelona (which Barcelona won 8-0). By the next year, the club had changed its name to Real Sociedad Alfonso XII, which remained until the club was renamed in 1931, for political reasons, Club Deportivo Mallorca. The Real prefix was added in 1949.

In its history, the team has spent 20 seasons in the Primera, 29 in segunda, 2 in segunda B and 11 in tercera. Probably the greatest achievement in the club's history was to win the Copa del Rey in the 2002-2003 season, scoring 3 goals to nil against Recreativo de Huelva.

Honours

Copa del Rey winners 2002-03, runner up 1990-91 and 1997-98
Cup Winners' Cup finallist in 1999.
Segunda División champions 1959-60 and 1964-65.
Best position in the Primera División was 3rd in 1998-99.

Sky sports today reported that Arsenal are interested in Miguel Moya.

Arsenal are understood to be monitoring the progress of Mallorca's promising young goalkeeper Miguel Moya.
The 20-year-old has broken through at the Primera outfit this term, establishing himself as the club's number one.
Mallorca moved to sign Sander Westerveld on a season-long loan from Real Sociedad at the start of the campaign to add more experience to their squad, but Moya has seen off the challenge of the former Liverpool man to make the number one jersey his own.
His form has seen him called up to the Spain Under-21 squad despite playing for a team who are battling to avoid relegation from La Primera.
Reports in Spain claim that Arsenal dispatched vice-president David Dein to watch Moya in action last weekend in Mallorca's 2-1 win over Albacete, and suggest The Gunners intend to continue watching the youngster.
Moya has admitted he is flattered by reports of the North Londoners' interest, but insists he is fully focused on helping Mallorca in their battle against relegation.
"It makes me proud that they are looking at me, but my priority is Mallorca and survival," he told AS.
"News like this is not going to distract me, I play with complete concentration. I will give what I it takes for Mallorca to survive.
"I am a Mallorca fan and what would excite me most in the future is a great, strong Mallorca team in La Primera.
"Arsenal are a great team and have two good goalkeepers in (Manuel) Almunia and (Jens) Lehmann, but I would prefer not to make any plans for my future."
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has already raided the Spanish market successfully for young talent in the past, having brought both Jose Antonio Reyes and Cesc Fabregas to Highbury.

Hello!

I´m a Mallorca fan!
I´m glad that i´ve finally found an english speaking forum to talk about RCD Mallorca, because I´m from Germany and I really can´t speak the spanish language. And I hope that Valdes and I are not the only ones who support RCD. ;)

@ Valdes: Do you know any other english speaking fan-forum about Mallorca, I´ve looked through the internet but didn´t find anything.

And now that Mallorca has finally accomplished to stay in the primera I hope we can make this thread a bit longer ;)

cheers, Tobi aka audiollama

so, just for the beauty of the old stadium I want to post a picture of the beautiful entrance scenery I´ve made during my last visit on the island. I hope I can go to a match next season, in February they played away when I was there in Mallorca.

and here one picture from the inside:

sorry if this post should be in the picture area. I´ve seen it just after I made this post ;)

I'm not a Mallorca-fan as a such, but they belong to the clubs I kind of like and I was happy to see they did not relegate in the end. Additionally I rate Hector Cuper (actually a main reason why I like them) still one of the highest quality coaches in the world, what he just proved by the incredible run he made the team go through those last weeks.
Força Cuper!

Well, I became a Mallorca fan when Arango was transferred there (yes... call me all you want), and followed them this last season. I even celebrated their great escape. In fact, I wanted to start a thread like this, but didn´t know how to.

I can tell you, the club´s main priorities are to ensure Arango and Okubo stay.

Okubo had some good performances during the last weeks ... kinda like this guy ... well and Farinos showed as well that he still has it

Okubo could be the rare Japanese player who makes it for more than marketing reasons. Between him and Arangol, Cuper has the base of a good offense.

Mallorca will surprise a lot of people next season, mark my words ;)

yeah, I hope so. Would be nice not to see them struggling against relegation again. I´ll try to go a home match next season for the first time. Thanks to AirBerlin for the cheap tickets ;)

And by the way, Hector Cuper really must be a good coach. During the season I resigned myself to see Mallorca playing in the Segunda next season. But those incredible last weeks were definitely impressing.

I see that all writers here in this thread are not from mallorca, or am I wrong? Are there Mallorca supporters from the island here, too? ;)

Do they fly to Palma now as well? I though up to now they only served the big ones on the peninsula, yet not the island.
As you say home match. Have you seen them live playin away already?

Yeah, I rate him an outstanding coach, but with the seldom ability to lose the important games. However, he won them this season when it was most important.

They fly to Palma from Nürnberg. That´s just what I know. Is this the only German town?

I´ve seen them play a friendly match against my FCN. It must have been in 1996 or ´97. It was on the ground of SC Feucht, 5 minutes from me with the car.

I´ve been a few times on the island, and in February a few days in Palma. But I´ve nver managed to go to a match, as there always was summer break or they had an away match.

Just looked it up, they seem to fly from various cities, even Leipzig, well and Berlin (it's AirBerlin, makes sence :D )
Wow ... from Nürnberg you can actually fly to every city in Europe (well, I'm overexaggerating a bit ;) )

Well, Mallorca has just gotten an extension on Okubo´s loan for the upcoming season. In terms of departures, Marcos is expected to retire and Poli is out of contract and may not renew.

In case you´re wondering where´s the activity at Mallorca, it´s at the top where Alemany resigned some time ago and Vincenç Grande took over as president. One of his first decisions was to let Cuper decide who comes and goes.

In other news, Valencia has expressed interest in David Cortes, and Melo has said that he´ll probably not stay. He even has an offer from Racing.
