U.S. will kill everyone. Kobe was all we needed. and with Chris Paul and Dwight Howard.......it's a wrap
Physically they are at a different level, but it will not be easy for them in competitive matches. International rules and referees will not protect their star players as NBA rules and referees do and it may be a latent problem that will show up at the worst possible time when pure talent will not be enough to snatch the win.

This is a valid point. In the NBA, officials tend to protect star players on 50-50 decisions (nobody wants to pay money and see Kobe Bryant gets foul out early in the game) though international referees may not apply the same standards of officiating.

Team USA used to be a sure bet for an Olympic gold, though they have lost that aura of invincibility since the Sydney Olympics. And I won't be labelling this current team the Dream Team, that tag belongs to the 1992 team which competed in the Barcelona Olympics. With Magic, Bird and Jordan you have 3 of the best ever players of alltime on the same team. Sick.

This team is still well capable of winning the gold, though it won't be a walk in the park as expected.

Well China got killed. They kept it close then right before the half it blew up. Poor ball control by the Chinese, and turnovers galore led to dunks galore. The Americans are pretty f'ed up, even I'm f'ed up looking at the 3 point line so close to the basket, and it is throwing off their jump shooting. So why not dunk it? And dunk it to the lead they did

Yea that's true  But Kobe is the best sports competitor since Mike, he won't let the U.S. lose. It's all about Kobe, the best of the best. I don't like him as a person, but there's no denying his skill and heart.

Not only leadership, but his defensive skills are going to be a much needed addition to this team versus 2004..he's a pure defensive stopper in these Olympics in terms of his relative role to that in the Lakers

Yea, he wanted to be exactly like Jordan and he's gotten close. That's why I've never really liked him, because I used to tell he tried to immitate Jordan with his character on the court. The way he walked back to the bench for timeouts, how he chewed his gum, etc. He was a Mike poser :howler: not so much lately

But yea, he enjoys shutting you down almost as much as he does scoring. First team NBA All-Defensive Team pretty much every year. Maybe 2nd Team a few times.

He was enjoying himself out there today in his defense...nice posturing and antics.

But his shooting was bad...6 for 14...worst on the team...1 for 7 from 3 land..he needs to improve big time

6 for 14 wouldn't be bad at all if it wasn't all dunks :pp

I don't understand why the U.S. doesn't just pull from further out on the court where the NBA three is, they don't have to shoot right at the 3 pt line

Yeah that is what they were doing, but it is still kind of f'ed up, b/c you don't shoot from exactly the spot, and it is mentally tricky

You'd be surprised, they have very good muscle memory. They get it pretty close. Especially someone like Kobe and Redd, incredible range all over the court.

It is getting very tricky in the Group A. Argentina crushed Croatia 77 - 53 and now very much depends on match between Croatia and Lithuania. If Lithuania wins then it would probably mean that Lithuania take first place, Argentina second and Croatia third but if Croatia wins then it is highly possible that three teams will finish with 4 wins each and that would mean one of them is going to play Spain or USA in quarter-finals. Hardly a prospect to appreciate.

The US has been amazing in the last three games. They are finally playing to their potential for the first time since the 1994 World Championships. The three-year commitment (that each of the players were required to sign) has really paid off as they have become very familiar with one another as well as the international rules.

I'm really glad that the US destroyed the Aussies. For being a marginal team on the international level, some of their players sure talk a lot of trash, especially Matthew Nielsen. They were down by 26 points, and that punk is still trying to agitate LeBron. He needs to understand where he stands in world basketball, compared to true stars. CJ Bruton seems like a reasonable guy though.

"The US will be in deep sh!t against us since they only brought three tall players". Sounds about right, Matthew:D That performance should shut him up for a while:)

Yes, The US team have looked awesome. They finally look like a real team and play the right strategy with the aggressive personal defence and trying to force turnovers which leads to so many points since LeBron and Wade are simply unstobbable on the fast break and the rest aren't too shabby either. ;)
