From winning the WC to getting knocked out from group stages twice and not even qualifying for one after Calciopoli.

It gets worse, Italy will not have played a WC knock-out game for at least 16 years.

2018-16=2002
Or you presume they wont make the 2022 knockouts?

Mancini gives up €13m for Italy
Football Italia
Roberto Mancini is giving up on €13m to leave Zenit St Petersburg and take the Italy job next week.
Multiple sources all provide the same version of the story, as Mancini is due to become the new CT of the Nazionale.
He has reached an agreement to terminate his Zenit contract by mutual consent on Monday, meaning he’ll give up on a total €13m in projected wages.
Instead, Mancini will put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the FIGC by Wednesday at the latest.
It’ll be worth €2m per year, plus bonuses in case of qualification for Euro 2020, and runs to June 2020.
There is also an option to extend it to June 2022 and he should make his debut on May 28 in a friendly against the UAE.
Italy have been without a Coach since Giampiero Ventura was sacked in November for missing out on the 2018 World Cup.
Carlo Ancelotti had been the favourite, but would prefer to continue his career at club level for the moment.

Such an honourable, patriotic man. Mancio

Giving up 13 million to earn 2 million per year, plus all the many millions he already has. Yeah such patriotism

He's a crap manager anyway.
Also the Italian national anthem sucks, it's worse than Australia's.

We should do a poll on here. What is the better anthem; Italian or 'God save the queen'.

On here?
Italy would win cuz they hate us cuz they ain't us.
God save the Queen is a bit boring but if there is a God then he should save the Queen. It's like 400 years old too.

He is an upgrade on Ventura, this 100% for sure.
My worry is that he is likely just another Roberto Donadoni.

City fans actually paid money to buy a space on La Gazzetta dello sport to thank Mancini. And Green does love him, yes.
Mancini's stint at Zenit is underwhelming though admittedly.

Last WC knockout game was the 2006 final (we were eliminated before the WC knockout stages began in 2010, 2014 and 2018), the next one could be in 2022.
