need a thread for this big topic:

Vierri's disallowed goal on offside - no one on TV or posting can even agree on which italian player was supposed to have been offside. If it is that f'n close how in the world could the ref make such a call? Even with slo mo replay no one can even tell which player he is referring to. In that reduced space that call is insane.

We played and were coached horribly, but to take those goals away was criminal. Some people say Italy gets all the calls. If you watched today's match, you get the reality of the situation: in club and now national play, we can't get a fair deal. And what's frustrating is Collina gives it his all to be fair and honest with everyone, but FIFA can't seem to return the favor. Today was the tip of the proverbial mountain. It marks a new day for me. Just really distrubing stuff. No one cared about fairness today.

Were you watching?

If you saw Inzaghi pulling the defender's shirt you would have seen that the defender had Inzaghi's shirt as well. No foul.

You ought to accept that this game was stolen by two awful calls from a disgrace of a linesman.

You lost to the *United States*OK sucker?

Now piss off out of this forum.

I've already posted this in the match thread, but part of it also belongs here:

FIFA should step in and take a good look at the match footage and first off all reverse the yellow card Vieri got, then suspend the linesman for the rest of the World Cup as he is obviously not up to the job!!!

This whole situation is an outrage!! The only thing a linesman has to do is run with the forwards to see if they're not offside... a very simple task, and this man proved to be unable to do even that!!! Then he goes even further and elevates himself to the level of match referee by making decisions on a supposed foul commited on the field!!!

And this isn't the first dubious decision in this tournament! The reason for it is of course that FIFA has purposely put mediocre/low class referee's on the group stage matches, to 'save' the good referee's for the later stages and/or for important matches (like Argentina-England for example), but the matches of the group stage are just as important as the other matches!! And good refereeing should be a basic right that football teams are entitled to, not something given to them by the 'grace' of FIFA when they deem the match or stage of the competition important enough!! Instead of a electing new president, FIFA should concentrate their energy on finding/educating better referees!!

I live in England and so know alot about our ref today, Poll. This isn't the first time he's made huge mistakes.

But really, I'm fed up with all this ref crap, we could've/should've today, despite these poor decisions.

And that's a victory to savor? Pathetic.
Inzaghi clealy pulled the shirt of simic prior to him going down.. no doubt about it. The refereeing has been soft this WC.. i have seen freekicks given for alot less.

If it was 50/50 then a foul would not have been given.. i mean cmon your man Totti spent more time on the ground than actually standing.. he fell like a fairy everytime he had the ball but free kicks were still given.

Referees are soft this WC.. if they see something they give it.. and this once again was the case.

World Cup Report: Controversy Reigns As Croatia Down Italy

...

However, it was not football, but controversy that took center stage in Ibaraki, Japan. Two perfectly good Italy goals were disallowed as the Croats came from one down to beat the Italians 2-1.

...

Replays showed that Vieri had been a good two feet behind the ball when it was played to him and all he got for his brilliant effort was a yellow card for dissent.
...

a long ball into the box was chased down my Pippo Inzaghi and the Milan striker sneaked it by the keeper to send the Azzurri faithful into delirium. However, it was once again going to be the fateful assistant referee's flag that denied Trap's men the chance to celebrate. This time the Italians were penalized for a foul that never was and denied the chance to earn a well-deserved draw.

VERGOGNA!

Vieri blasts "amateurish" linesman

(Channel4) - Italy had two goals controversially ruled out in their 2-1 defeat against Croatia, both of them decided by Danish linesman Jens Larsen.

“There was no reason at all for my goal being annulled,” blasted Christian Vieri after the final whistle.

“I don’t think Pippo Inzaghi’s had anything wrong with it, either. In fact, he was being held by the Croatian marker.”

“I really don’t understand the decisions made by the referee and his assistant in this match,” continued Vieri. “I’m far from certain that these people are able to officiate in a World Cup. We should have won this 3-2.”

The Azzurri were also unfortunate to see Francesco Totti’s late free kick come off the post.

“Let’s not even start talking about bad luck,” sighed Vieri.

Teammate Fabio Cannavaro agreed with the criticism of referee Graham Poll.

“Vieri did well to say those things, because the referee made very serious mistakes. It was a tough game,” added the defender, “but we were expecting that.”

The usually strong Italian back line looked particularly troubled after Alessandro Nesta limped off with a bruised foot.

“Nesta felt pain under his foot and asked for the substitution,” revealed the Parma captain, “but I don’t think it’s anything serious.”

His replacement, Marco Materazzi, was less than impressive and failed to close down the Croats on both goals.

“There is nothing to be gained in pointing the finger at individuals,” snapped Cannavaro. “When a mistake is made then we are all at fault.”

“There is no such thing as a poor team in the World Cup nowadays,” he assured. “Italy did well overall and this was a simple slip-up, nothing more.”

“There are no regrets as we had our chances to win the match and would have taken them with a better referee. I have always maintained that Italian referees are the best in the world.”

When asked if the Azzurri would change their tactics for the final Group G clash with Mexico, Cannavaro seemed hesitant.

“Our characteristics mean we do best when hitting teams on the break. We suffered today in trying to find space.

Polemics is the key word for this world cup....................

brazil gets a penalty shot that didnt occur and no suspension for rivaldo (though i love the guy) even though FIFA states that they will crack down on cheaters..

isn't it ironic that italy has the best referee in the world yet are always stuck with mediocre officials? either the linesman was too in-ept for this level of soccer or he was in on a conspiracy.. i suspect the former which illustrates what a horrible job FIFA is doing

how will italy respond to this??? the media will be on top of trap for his sudden tactical change (along with conspriacy theorists) so i suspect italy might go into a media black out a la 1982.... and we all know what happened then

France, Argentina, Italy, and Portugal nearing the brink...... what has the world come to????

IMO they will still win the WC.. i predict they will beat Mexico 2-0 and advance.. remember they have the good side of the draw.. its always good to get a wake-up call.. better during the group matches than during the elimination ones.
