The 'Secret Footballer' whoever the hell that is has said we have a deal done for Schneiderlin for 22.5MP. Only a couple of places are reporting it though and not the most reputable.
Most people that believe that are just people that want it to be true.

1. The Secret Footballer could be a nobody.
2. It's reportedly Dave Kitson (of Reading fame), and if not him then it would be a low-level footballer of that ilk who has no insight into other club's transfers - how ridiculous.
3. £23m is very low in today's inflated market for a midfielder who has been one of the best in the league this year. With every top club looking at him you can bet Southampton would encourage a public bidding war rather than a secret deal that seems too good to be true for Arsenal.

Sadly, I rate that rumour 0/10.

£23 million is relatively small figure for a highly rated footballers these days. Even we failed to get Higuain for the bid in that same number. With his performance with Southampton this season (especially against Chelsea), I would wonder if the club would release him with such price since 20 million is a range of price that all of big clubs mostly can afford. And there's absolutely no way Koeman or his club would release him in the middle of season while they are chasing CL spot and he is their best player !

I don't think £23 million is that low for Schneiderlin. He would actually be one of the most expensive pure defensive midfielders in history. He has like 5 NT caps... Close to 23 sounds like a reasonable price. More than that would be quite a lot, especially considering he has already spoken about how he wanted to leave before. But of course if he has a contract and they don't want to let him go, and buyers are rich and desperate for a player like him (Arsenal are rich but likely not desperate, although they probably should be), they might get away with a larger fee.

If you get him for 23 it's a steal. Considering it's January and considering the lack of options that could walk in and have an automatic impact.

I do think there's a tallish Belgian player who has played at a top level club and played in a World Cup that's available. Will cost a lot less than 23m

You've heard it here first. Fellaini to Arsenal.

You can stay living the dream with that one. Whilst you're at it keep Anderson, Rafael, Smalling, Evans and Carrick. The van Gaal revolution is winning. :proud:

Anyway... half the window gone now and we've spent it haggling for a 17 year old kid. Another player for an area we do not need a player in.

It seems Coquelin is to be given green light to fill the permanent spot in our first team defensive midfield position as he is offered new contract today. Meanwhile, most likely both Flamini and Diaby's contracts won't be extended (That means we can buy Schneiderlin...yay  ) But not sure about Arteta.

For me, Arteta is never a DM. His filling DM role is just a failed stunt from Wenger. His best season is his first season in the club where he played deep lying midfielder with less defensive duty alongside Song (who was our 'DM' at that time). He is terrible defensively, but he is an intelligent and sharp passer. Playing both Coquelin and Arteta side-by-side has good prospect, IMO. But the current Arteta is not the same that we saw three seasons ago.

Arteta should have been sold in the summer, but Wenger went on to make him captain. Terrible decision.

Realistically there were not a lot of options though. Merts was the one everyone on most forums and social media wanted, and his form has been disgusting this year.

Who else could it have been? Unless they went with a young Ramsey or Wilshere? - lack of leaders around, which probably says more about this generation of players than it does Arsenal specifically.

So what do we think of Gabriel from Villareal, reports say we are bidding for him and Villareal is open to selling.
Don't know much about him but all media outlets seem quite positive on him. Villareal have been great defensively this season.

From all reports, he is quality and has the making of a long term centre half.

Not cheap though because of his age and form, plus there might be some permit issues.

But would be brilliant to get him. Mertersacker is on the decline and Koscielny has persistent Achilles problems. We must bring in a quality centre half, instead of playing full backs out of position as a stop gap.
