But what a game!
And to all the divers and fakers we have in this league (yeah all our teams have them): Just look at how Viduka tried to play despite being held back in the box-if he wanted he could've thrown himself but he kept on going after the ball-now thats what I call a true football player...

Totally agree.....we all have them and the refs needs to become stricter about it.

Ana....if Basel had won they would have earned switzerland more uefa points and we wouldnt have been able to participate with two teams in the C.L.

Thanks again Boro...

Just to clarrify things.

Because Middlesborough won we will still have two teams in the CL for the 2007-08 season. How it works is that the points a nation has accumulated over five years counts for the year after the year after the last of the five years, simply the second year after.

You can see the ranking they're going to use to determine how many teams that countries will have in Europe in 2007-08 here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/data/method3/crank2006.html
So as you can see here, indeed, Turkiye is still 15th because Middlesborough won which according to current qualifying procedure, http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/qual2006.html, means Turkiye still has two CL places for 2007-08.

What decides how many teams Turkiye has in 2006-07 is these rankings up to last year: http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/data/method3/crank2005.html
You can see Turkiye is 11th just like in the qualification procedure for 2006-07 posted here (again): http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/qual2006.html

Just a question. Does anyone know what the deal with the Turkish champion going to the group stage is? The past years they've gone directly, but it says here that the champion will enter the 3rd qualifying round? Anyone know?

The rankings take into consideration how many teams from each nation go into each competition, and which stage the teams join the said competition. We've been just one place outside of the places to get an automatic qualification place, but since the winner of the Champions' League in the last two years has sacrificed their direct qualification, it gets handed down to the next highest nation without an automatic qualifier, aka us..

Two years ago, Porto won both the CL and the league, so they got two automatic qualifying spots and sacrificed one. Last year, Liverpool finished 5th and won the CL, but had to give up their automatic qualification because they weren't even supposed to be in Europe, big controversy and such..
