SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - Argentina international Carlos Tevez was hospitalized with a leg infection on Friday.
The 20-year-old Corinthians player was taken to Sao Luiz Hospital in Sao Paulo after exams showed an acute inflammation on his right shin, doctor Flavio Faloppa said in a hospital statement.
Tevez had missed Corinthians' Friday practice because of severe pain in the leg, prompting team doctors to conduct a thorough examination.
The striker, voted Latin American Player of the Year in 2004, was expected to be hospitalized until Saturday night, the hospital said.
Tevez, acquired for nearly US$20 million (€15.4 million) last December, was Corinthians top signing for the 2005 season. He was expected to make his debut with the three-time Brazilian champion on Jan. 29.
