Taça de Portugal 2014/2015

Round 3

Estádio do Dragão, 18.10.2014, 18:00 CET
Ref: Jorge "Super Dragão" Sousa (AF Porto)

vs

Fruta CP 1-3 SPORTING CP
(Jackson Martinez 35'; Marcano 31' OG, Nani 39', Carrillo 83')

Sadly I'm not that confident about this one and it's easy to explain why.
Sporting right now has a better team than Porto, maybe not better players in all positions but as a team we are playing better football and showing more what we want and how to get it.
Our coach is, at least from what he showed so far, better than theirs. Lopetegui couldn't convince a kid to buy caramelos from him in Badajoz.

So, why am I pessimistic? Simply because Porto can't stand the confrontational attitude of the new Sporting personified by our president Bruno de Carvalho. They hate our guts because we dare to accuse them of what they are and we're not afraid of the consequences. And what are the consequences? Getting a 3rd round cup game at their stadium refereed by a former member of their main ultras group. The usual stuff.

It seems that at least 4000 bold sportinguistas will be at the fruit depot but there will be so many more behind them.

Marco Silva called the following 21 lions for this game:

Goalkeepers:
1 Rui Patrício and 22 Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders:
41 Cédric, 13 Miguel Lopes, 3 Maurício, 29 Naby Sarr, 26 Paulo Oliveira, 4 Jefferson and 33 Jonathan Silva.

Midfielders:
23 Adrien, 14 William Carvalho, 17 João Mário, 8 André Martins and 24 Uri Rosell.

Forwards and Wingers:
10 Fredy Montero, 9 Slimani, 11 Diego Capel, 18 Carrillo, 77 Nani, 19 Tanaka and 36 Carlos Mané.

If I'm not wrong it's the first time that we'll see this pair of CBs playing together.

Jonathan takes the place of Jefferson after his great game against this lot for the league.

Capel and Montero in the place of Carrillo and Slimani who were on international duty this week.

Another huge chance at 2' with Montero wasting a huge chance after a great assist by J Mário. What a start!

At 20' Maurício heads over the crossbar after a free-kick by Nani.

Sporting better in these first 20'.

Bad offside call on Montero followed by Porto's first chance with Adrián's shot going straight at Patrício.

Nani sees a yellow just to make sure that he stops humiliating every portista that crosses his path.

At 32' Jonathan's great cross to Montero ends up being finished by a great header of Marcano. Deserved lead for Sporting.

At 38' Sporting's high pressure manages to steal the ball from Porto's defence once again. Montero assists and Nani explodes it into the net. 2-1 for the good guys.

Excellent first half from our boys showing that they are indeed a better team. High pressure stealing inumerous balls in midfield and practically cancelling any possibilities of danger for our defence. William has been imperial in that role and Montero's inclusion was also really helpful for this type of tactics.

The brightest star of this game so far was without a doubt Nani - what a fantastic display of skills from the best player of our league. He's been destroying that left side of Porto like he just don't care. :D

And at 51' Jorge Sousa appears in the scene...

Jackson is launched with a long pass, he is offside but it doesn't matter for the linesman, afterwards he dives inside the box and gets a penalty...BUT...it happens something that the ref can't plan...RUI PATRÍCIO SAVES!!! :D
