Our quest for winning the Portuguese Cup for the 16th time starts away at FC Famalicão, a team currently playing in the 3rd level of our football but that some 20 years ago was on the top division.

After the international break, where the majority of the players that have been used more often so far in this season by Domingos were at the service of their NTs, it's expected to see a few new faces. From the list of players called we can already see that Rui Patrício, Elias (both regular starters) and Bojinov will be rested, as well as Rinaudo who will serve his suspension from the red card seen in the last round of the league against Guimarães.

There are rumours that this may be a good opportunity for Santiago Arias, one of the most promising new young players bought by the club during this pre-season transfer window, for finally make his debut for us.

Here's the list of players called:

Goalkeepers:
12 Marcelo Boeck and 16 Tiago.

Defenders:
2 Alberto Rodríguez, 3 Daniel Carriço, 4 Anderson Polga, 5 Oguchi Onyewu, 6 Evaldo, 19 Santiago Arias, 47 João Pereira and 48 Emiliano Insúa.

Midfielders:
8 Stijn Schaars, 11 Diego Capel, 14 Matías Fernández, 25 Bruno Pereirinha, 26 André Santos and 28 André Martins.

Forwards:
9 Ricky van Wolfswinkel, 18 André Carrillo and 33 Diego Rubio.

Starting line-up is out with a few surprises...

Marcelo Boeck
João Pereira - Daniel Carriço - Onyewu - Evaldo
André Santos
Matías Fernández - Schaars
Diego Capel - van Wolfswinkel - Insúa

It's a shame that Domingos did not give a chance to Arias or even to Diego Rubio but on the other hand it's interesting to see Insúa as left winger.

FORÇA SPORTING!!! :fero:

Great chance at 6' with RvW heading well after a good cross by Insúa.

At 28' João Pereira almost scores. A defender saved it on the goal line.

0-0 at HT

A first half that went exactly as expected. Sporting had 73% of ball possession, created three clear goal chances and did not allow Famalicão to create one single dangerous situation upfront. It's been a game of patience, with one team trying to open a good defensive line on a tiny pitch.

The bet on Isúa as left winger is not working because he has zero support from the worst player of our squad. Don't know why Evaldo was not sent on the same bus of Grimi & Co but we have to put up with him. In the midfield André Santos and Matías do not give the same dynamism to our game when compared to Elias and Rinaudo.

I hope Domingos brings on Diego Rubio for the place of Matías and I'd like to see Evaldo going to bed and Santiago Arias coming in to the right flank of our midfield, Capel moving to his original left wing position and Insúa as LB.

In any case, sooner or later I think we will end up scoring and when that happens I don't see Famalicão capable of creating danger without opening huge gaps in the back.

Domingos did make two subs at half time but not exactly what I hoped for.

Pereirinha comes in for Onyewu and Rodriguez in for Carriço (injured).

The two forced changes in the centre of our defence made Famalicao create more danger in these first 5' of the 2nd half than during the whole first half.

Come on amigo, I'm sure you expected to be winning by half-time.
Yes but that doesn't go against what I wrote. Anyway, this is not Maçãs e Pinheiros FC. :shades:

No. Famalicão plays on 2a Divisão and your pears and pines play in the 3rd.

Matías puts the ball in the back of the net but the ref considered that he fouled the keeper.

Diego Capel is subbed by Diego Rubio.

The Spaniard was the key to win this game.

At 83' Talocha handles the ball close to his box and sees a 2nd yellow. 11 vs 9 now.
