Talk about the league and players in here. Don't mention Johann Vogel though :yuck:

I like the format of the Swiss leagues, 10 clubs, wish Croatia can adopt something like that. Ok this year you have two teams out of their depth (Aarau and Bellinzona) but usually the relgation battles, European spots and even title races all come down to the end of the season. Its one of those leagues where a few positive results can boost you up the table and a string of bad ones will get you down to the bottom

As usual is cases of smaller countries getting a club in the CL, FC Zurich are struggling in the league, they were well over-matched in the CL as well.

I notice once again a Challenge League side has made the cup final...it always seems to happen in Switzerland where a second division team makes the cup final and represents you in Europe :D

FC Basel will take on Lausanne, a few years ago Bellinzona made the cup final when they were in the second division

FC Basel are the Swiss double winners after beating BSC Young Boys 2:0 to win the league. Congrats to them, they have some nice young talents there

BSC Young Boys to me seemed like a dirty team, I know emotions were running high but they should have had 3-4 red cards not only one. They were elbowing and sliding in late every chance they got. Basel had like 3 players injured...

BSC with a massive choke job as well, weren't they leading the league by 12 points over Basel around the winter break?

Threw it away did Young Boys, big lead at the halfway stage and even after choking so bad, they could still fix it all at home to Basel in the last match. Just simply crumbled under the pressure. Basel now with a young side look forward to next season while Young Boys best player Doumbia leaves for CSKA Moskva.

Basel stormed to their 13th Swiss Super League title on Sunday with a convincing 2-0 win away to nearest rivals Young Boys to complete a league and cup double.

With a far superior goal difference, Thorsten Fink's men needed just a draw at the Stade de Suisse in Bern to claim the crown after Young Boys relinquished control in the title race with a 5-1 defeat away to Luzern midweek.

The RotBlau put themselves firmly in the driving seat shortly before half-time when homegrown Switzerland international winger Valentin Stocker fired the visitors in front.

Basel then doubled their advantage on the hour mark when veteran Australian utility man Scott Chipperfield scored to put the tie and the championship beyond doubt.

Xavier Hochstrasser was sent off with just four minutes remaining to complete a miserable finish to the campaign for the hosts, who finish second for the second year in succession and have now gone 24 years with without league honours.

Basel's win guarantees them a place in the UEFA Champions League next season and ends the three year dominance of rivals Zurich at the top of Swiss football.

love that goal of Granit Xhaka, only 17 years old, great talent.

Lausanne is making some run :D funny considering they weren't even close to promotion.

To me, FC Basel don't have enough depth to me considered a serious European threat. They have some good young players, but not much off the bench
yup, these guys especially, Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka and Taulant Xhaka, future Kosovo NT stars.

#20 ·
Xhaka won't play much in reality, maybe a few games here and there. Shaqiri though is a key player and he is already on the Swiss NT. Not sure what the rule is with the Kosovo NT but I'm sure they will be playing full time by the 2014 WC qualifiers

They also got some good African talents like Inkoom and Tembo and even a young Argentinian David Abraham who used to play for their U20s.

the rule with kosovo, is that after we get UN membership(which shouldnt be much longer) than we will get FIFA/UEFA membership. after this any player with kosovar decent, no matter if they already represent another country, will have a final decision to make(if they want to switch to kosovo NT). the reason for this is because they were not able to choose kosovo, when they chose other countries, as kosovo was not yet a member of FIFA/UEFA.

#24 ·
lol not just switzerland, but sweden, finland, austria. and than there are some kosovar-albanian youth in germany, holland, norway, denmark.

i dont think kosovo is going to have a problem in finding players.
right now there are plenty of kosovars playing for decent clubs, they just dont play for albania, they are waiting untill kosovo get fifa/uefa membership.

#25 ·
Yeah right, if they were such proud Albanians they would already be playing for Albania instead of opting for more exposure with western national teams. There is no guarantee that they will play for Kosovo, you are very naive if you believe that they are just waiting until you get FIFA membership( besides you have a lot of Chinese, Russian and Spanish cock to suck before that happens;) ).

i think your the one that will be doing that, begging them not to let kosovo get UN membership ;)
as for them not playing for albania, thats FSHF to blame for being corrupt ********s. its ok this will be better, more exposer for albanian players on international stage, and more spots on uefa competitions for the league. but this wont last long, just untill the corrupt morons get the boot, than it will be united ethnic albania :D
now go suck some russian cock so they can veto it pahahahaha:howler:

FC Basel advance to the CL 4th qualifying round after beating Debrecen 3:1 (5:1 on aggregate). They will be seeded in the champions portion of the draw

Young Boys Bern with the shock of the qualifying so far as they eliminate Fenerbache!! Winning 1:0 in their house and 3:2 on aggregate. The team is struggling in the Swiss league but they pull off this result. They are now guaranteed at least a EL group stage spot but they can play for the CL, though they are unseeded in the difficult "Non-champions" draw

#28 ·
the funny thing is they have a mid-table second division side in Europe and yet they won two rounds so far and are set to complete the job in the third

Basel look good, but again I think they lack the depth to be strong in both competitions. Look at Zurich last season, they played in the CL and did OK there but suffered in the league

They are already on our side you guys are the ones that have to win them over, open wide!

Enjoy watching Kolarov's amazing free kicks, runs and passes for many years to come:D

Is Inkoom a natural defender? I noticed in the World Cup he played as a midfielder but as Basel he plays as a RB and defensively he is shaky, doesn't make good decisions
He is seen as a RB yes. In the World Cup Ghana used him as a midfielder because he is naturally good going forward. Tbh so many fullbacks now are better going forward than they are defending. You see so many of them. So in essence he is a wingback. Still young so plenty of time to improve defensively but his offensive play and overlapping runs are the big feature of his game.
