You know them, these actors who never have a leading role but my oh my they are seen in so many movies.
The names of these actors don't mean didly squat to you, but when you see their face you recognise them.
Typical sentence when this happens is something like: "Oh yeah, him (or her)!" or "where have I seen that guy before?"

Do any of these names ring a bell?
Danny Trejo;
Raymond Cruz;
Al Leong;
JT Walsh;
James Hong;
Bill Cobbs;
Joe Viterelli;
Luis Guzman;
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa;
Philip Baker Hall;
Joe Don Baker:

You ALL know Danny Trejo. Who? Danny Trejo! Come again?

Well, you do now ;). the guy who always plays the bad guy.

Raymond Cruz

Al Leong doesn't sound familair at all! But I bet you think "where have I seen that bad-ass face again!?'

JT Walsh
For everytime you need a non-reliable government suit or slimy senator.

James Hong? Give this guy a suit from a Vietcong commander and you will recognize him from tons of movies:

Bill Cobbs

You are shooting a mafia movie and are still in the castingperiod for the godfathers henchman. Who you gonna call?
Joe Viterelli

Luis Guzman

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa?
Ah yes, the Yakuza guy! :cool:

Philip Baker Hall?
Yes, in what movies have I seen that guy.....hhhmmm

Another typical face without a name: when a director is in need of a mayor, or someone calling the shots in a dusty wild west town, or just a copper sitting down in the cantina...Joe Don Baker.

A more familair name is Joe Pantoliano, who played in Matrix and Memento for instance.

Also very familair is David Morse

And one of the most recognizable faces of all, that one of Gary Busey

And the winner imo of most recognizable support actor:
Michael Ironside
Just look at the list of movies! Damn!
http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0000461/

Anyone up to add some more on this list? I know some more, but I thought I would give you the opportunity to post some aswell...if u wanna of course :tongue: I left one out who is sooooooo recognisable...let's see if you mention him ;)
I hardly came up with women, perhaps some of you can?

JT Walsh was considered by acknowledged "great thespians" as Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino as a better actor than they were. He was never bad in anything I'd ever seen him in (and he was the shining spot in many a bad B picture), and that is the mark of a great supporting actor. Some others: Don Cheadle (was the only reason for watching Out of Sight and Devil In A Blue Dress), Steve Buscemi, Brad Dourif, Judith Ivey, Alfre Woodard, Fred Ward and, of course, Martin Scorcese's mother--she was great in Goodfellas and Casino.

Finally, in a historical vein, Ernest Theisiger and Una Clair (the evil, fey professor and crazy local woman, respectively, in many a 30s and 40s horror film) were great bit players. Thelma Ritter enlivened more than 100 films in the 50s and 60s with her no-nonsense gravely style (she always played the older wiser friend of the heroine) and Henry Jones in Vertigo gave the best two minute acting performance ever in a film. He was in and out and will never ever be forgotten...especially by acting students who have to watch that clip as an example of how to underplay and still steal a scene from Jimmy Stewart.

That James Hong guy was also in a Seinfeld episode (the time when they were in a Chinese restaurant waiting to be seated...).
Instead of calling out George's last name (Costanza) he called out "Courtright".....Funny episode!!!

:thumbsup: :D

Bruce (holding a phone): Cartwright?

Elaine: I can't have popcorn for dinner!

Bruce: Cartwright?

Elaine (tries to snatch food off a waiter's tray): I have to eat!

Jerry: So they have hotdogs there.

Elaine: Oh, movie hotdogs! I rather lick the food off the floor.

George: I can't go anywhere, I have to wait here for Tatiana's call. Let me just check. (goes over to Bruce)

George: Excuse me, I'm expecting a call. Costanza?

Bruce: Yeah, I just got a call. I yell 'Cartwright! Cartwright!', just like that. Nobody came up, I hang up.

George: Well, was it for Costanza or...

Bruce: Yes, yes, that's it. Nobody answered.

George: Well was it a woman?

Bruce: Yeah, yeah. I tell her you not here, she said curse word, I hang up.

@Glen: Phillip Seymour Hoffman! Indeed, I saw The Big Lebowski a week ago or so and he was in that aswell :)

steve Busceme? hhmmm ok, first when his name came up I cosnsidered him as a non-supporting actor, but come to think of it, he mostly never has the leading role in all these films he has played, so ok :)

Another one that comes to mind is....hmmmm...can't come up with his name at the moment..... :confused: :tongue:

What about Clint Howard :D
Brother of director Ron "Happy Days' Richie Cunningham" Howard

Udo Kier anyone?

Ving Rhames?

The one I meant in my earlier post is this guy:

Who knows his name ;)

I think the fellow who's name you don't know is either Miguel Ferrer (who is the son of Jose Ferrer) or Mitch Pileggi (who was on the X Files), I always mix them up.
Udo Kier is a genius, especially in Andy Warhol's Dracula and Frankenstein!

Haha! You sure know your Seinfeld episodes!

I always thought it was Courtright not Cartwright, but close enough ;)
