Bojinov back in reserves' 2-1 defeat at Liverpool

Valeri Bojinov returned to action after his long injury lay-off in the reserves' 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Thursday night.

The Reds went 2-0 up thanks to a first-half brace from Jordy Brouwer, but Bojinov, a 69th minute substitute, went very close just seconds after coming on and then played a big part in City's goal 12 minutes from the end.

The former Fiorentina man lunged at the ball, swung in by Adam Clayton at a free kick, and did enough to unsettle the Liverpool keeper before it rolled into the net.

The Bulgarian has been out of action since sustaining a knee ligament injury just six minutes into his first start for City, last August’s home derby.

Reserves coach Ian Miller said: "Valeri claims he got a touch on it, as all good strikers would! Liverpool's TV people told me it looks like Adam's goal, but Valeri did very well after coming on, and he could have scored with virtually his first touch.

"The two teams were pretty even in the first half, but Liverpool were clinical in front of goal. I thought we were the better side after the break, and it was nice to see Valeri get some match action under his belt after so long."

I saw that, got very excited when Boji scored.

Its way too early for him. I think we can win this. Although our away form has been woeful recently (or most of the season), so I'd take a draw. Onuoha and Richards are out, which isn't great. A slowish defence of Dunne and Corluka will at least combat Jones aerially. Hopefully they won;t kick us too much, as we've got a few flair players in the side. I'd go for this line-up and hope for 2-1:

-------------Hart
Sun---Corluka---Dunne---Garrido
------Johnson---Hamann
Castillo------Elano-----Petrov
-----------Benjani:

Subs: Schmeichel, Ball, Ireland, Vassell, Caicedo.

Yeah? Well I support Rangers, so I was happy to see them win last night :finger:

I think you will lose not because I have anything against Man City (on the contrary) but because my 2nd team in England is Sunderland. But your reaction makes me even want them more to beat you so I am now even more sure that you will indeed lose. :)

Fantastic, 2-1. Showed great character to get a second after they drew level. After no penalties all season in the EPL, we have two in two games. Elano once again scores, and Vassell gets another after coming on as a sub. Sturridge, on as a sub, got the penalty, and then was subbed. Any news? We need him fit for the youth cup final on wednesday.

didnt watch the match but happy with the result

I can make a short summary of it for you.

Sunderland played slightly better than you but one of your players dived in the box and the ref was Mike Riley. At the end of it you still managed to win with a missed shot by Vassell. Impressive win.

Sturridge didnt dive... he got clipped and running at that speed its enough to make you fall over... was unintentional but the Sunderland defender though of course, but it still happened. Also Vassell even though he scored, still showed how crappy he is with the way he hit the shot, but never mind he won the 3 points for the game :D City needed that. Hopefully now a decent end of season run.

I suggest you don't start your own wine Felipe because such sour grapes will make it taste awful.

So what if we weren't the better side? Every team gets a bit of luck, with results, Sunderland included. You can criticise us all you like but at least we put the ball on the floor rather than Sunderland's route one approach. I knowQuinn is the chairman, but surely he doesn't have that much influence does he? Whatever man, your team kicked us all game. If thats playing better, then I reckon you'd enjoy watching Hurling.

Come on Deano, most of Bianchi's goals were shinned in for Reggina last season. If Rolando scored that you'd have praised him for being in the position ;)

Since coming into the team Vassell has done well to get into scoring positions and grab a fair few goals from the wing. I'm sure his goals to minutes ratio is fairly good when you compare it with players like Kuyt, Young and Diouf, ie mid table winger-strikers who cut inside. I think he's finished as a striker now but has been re-invented as a winger.

Well Bianchi's were shinned in from about 4 rebounds :D Vassell had a clear shot and thankfully it went in, if that had scuffled wide we would have been out to kill him.

Personally I dont think Vassell has the awareness to be a starter in thsi division. he has good things about him which makes him a handy squad player, but if City have ambitions of top 4 or 5 next year he shouldnt be in the City squad.

Nevermind, I was just upset because I don't think Sunderland deserved to lose that game. I love the team but not exactly because of their flair. :pp

Although, having said so I think that with the early hopes that your team gave to your fans, and with all the money involved, you should be doing much better now.

Beg Pardon? You spent in the same region as us. Whilst we are 8th, we were woeful last season, and desperate to stay up. When the takeover happened, most people had no idea about who we'd signed, and wanted to just consolidate. If we hadn't had the marvellous start to the season we did, but were around 8th still, we'd be viewing this season as a success and I think City fans need to remember where we've come from the past few seasons and stay realistic.
