Sunderland have been linked with a £10m move for French midfielder Claude Makelele of Celta Vigo.
Sunderland manager Peter Reid told the Sunday Mirror: "All I can say at this stage is that I have made an inquiry for Makelele. He is a top-drawer player."
Reid would have to break Sunderland's transfer record if he is to buy Makelele.
Just to note, I thought Makalele was South African
