How about the host nation making the finals. As Dagoods would say, ratings! 😀
But that's not what happened tonight though. It was sheer incompetence by an arrogant referee. He's known in Holland for making big mistakes and this is just another one on the list. VAR however should ALWAYS make sure that the ref at least goes and watches back the incident in instances like this one. Otherwise there's no point in even having VAR.
Sterling or the Ref call is not the big issue. The real problem is fecking VAR, the only good thing of this implementation is to actually change a bad decision like this one.
VAR has become really annoying allowing milimetric and ridiculous offsides being call and in the meantime not revoking bad calls or not calling for the ones that were missed. It is not only becoming pointless, but worse, perjudicating.
I wanted VAR just for goal line tech.
To prevent Rom-Bulg 1996 or Eng-Ger 2010. Not all-encompassing like this.
But in this instance, VAR checked it & advised the ref it was a pen. just simple interpretation. In football have a problem when the rules can be interpreted differently by different refs / VAR checkers at any different time.
