I've been thinking for a while to start a thread on one of the newest and most exciting to watch new versions of football and today after reading a very informative article on Sporting's participation in this season's UEFA Futsal's Cup I decided to start it...

Sporting soaring to fresh success

in uefa.com

With the Elite round of the UEFA Futsal Cup to take place from 4 December, uefa.com is taking a closer look at each of the 16 sides involved. Today we examine Sporting Clube de Portugal, who reached the semi-finals as hosts of the inaugural edition in 2001/02. They will travel to Russia to face two-time finalists MFK Dinamo Moskva, highly-rated FC Shakhtar Donetsk and Romania's CIP Deva, with only one place in April's final four up for grabs.

Perfect record
That makes Group B probably the toughest of the four pools, but Sporting's breathtaking start to the season marks them out as undeniable contenders. Not only did they defeat FC Adana Yerevan, KMF Alfa Parf Skopje and Clearex Chorzów to storm through the UEFA Futsal Cup Main round, scoring 17 goals, but they have won all seven of their Portuguese league fixtures to date, including a 2-1 victory at arch-rivals and former European finalists SL Benfica. Last weekend they overcame Boavista FC 8-0, the second time they have reached that tally in the league this term.

Success
Sporting's history in the small-sided game dates back to 1988, when the famed club founded in 1906 embraced FIFA's decision to recognise futsal. The Lisbon outfit have gone on to win seven Portuguese championships (1992/93, 1993/94, 1994/95, 1998/99, 2000/01, 2003/04, 2005/06), one Portuguese Cup (2005/06) and two Portuguese Super Cups (2001/02, 2003/04).

Davi arrival
Much of Sporting's success is down to coach Paulo Fernandes. The 41-year-old has five Portuguese titles under his belt with Sporting, following short spells at Grupo Desportivo dos Bons Dias and Brinca N'Areia FC. As for key players, Sporting field stalwart talents like Evandro, Zézito and Bibi, but the spotlight is currently on new Brazilian signing Davi, who helped Action 21 Charleroi to victory in the 2004/05 UEFA Futsal Cup, playing both legs of the thrilling final win against Dinamo and also scoring in the 7-4 defeat of Sporting in the previous round. The 27-year-old has brought that form to Portugal, and already has 12 goals this season. His compatriot Adolfo Wulf, who also joined this summer, is in similar fine fettle having long established his reputation elsewhere in the Portuguese league.

Goalkeeping prowess
The departure of No1 goalkeeper João Benedito to two-time European champions Playas de Castellón FS at the end of last season could have taken its toll on the Portuguese champions but Cristiano has stepped up and conceded only ten goals in the seven league matches so far, ensuring Sporting have the best defensive record in the league.

Fantastic performance by our Futsal team managing to beat in Group A of the Elite Round the Spanish champions, and favourites Inter FS, the team that won UEFA Futsal Cup more times, and qualify for the 4th time in our history to the Final Four of the most important club competition of European Futsal. Sporting made an almost perfect match against this very strong opponents and won 1-0 with a goal scored by Diogo only 6 minutes from time in front of a completely packed sports hall in Odivelas.

Sporting hosted this group of the Elite Round and won the three matches like this:

Incredible futsal match that I've just watched in the semi final of the 2014/15 UEFA's Futsal Cup between Sporting and FC Barcelona. The final four of this competition started being played today in Lisbon and although Sporting lost 3-5 it's impossible not to be proud of what he did today. Not only we forced the current European champions to play at their highest level in order to beat us but our fans created an incredible atmosphere inside of Lisbon's Pavilhão do Atlântico, the largest indoor multipurpose hall in the country. We actually beat UEFA Futsal Cup's attendance record with 12,076 mad sportinguistas rooting for the Lions.

This tournament didn't come at the best time for us as the team is not going through its best period of form but still we forced Barca to the limits. We opened the score in the first half but Barcelona equalized before the break. During the first half we lost our talismanic captain and goalkeeper with what seems to be a serious injury and that obviously didn't help making things easier. In the second half the Catalans reached 3-1 but a strong reaction from Sporting saw us equalize with less than 4 minutes to play. Barcelona ended up scoring their 4th goal 30 seconds before the end of the match and made the 5th virtually in the last second of the game moments after Sporting was on the verge of reaching the equalizer. A dramatic finish of a great game and another proof of Sporting's vitality.

Sporting crushed the Russians of Dina Moskva 8-3 and finished in Third place in the UEFA Futsal Cup, the CL of Futsal. Here's the match report.

Rampant Sporting take bronze against Dina
ISK Dina Moskva 3-8 Sporting Clube de Portugal
Alex's four goals were the highlight as the home side delighted their fans by claiming bronze.

• Sporting claim bronze in front of more than 8,500 fans at Meo Arena
• Esquerdinha scores first for Dina, but Alex strikes twice to put Sporting 2-1 up at break
• João Matos gets third, set up by keeper Cristiano, both 'deputising' for João Benedito
• Sporting pull away, Alex getting two more and Cristiano also striking

Finals hosts Sporting Clube de Portugal ended the 2014/15 UEFA Futsal Cup with bronze after comfortably defeating competition debutants ISK Dina Moskva.

Both teams were without their captains, Dina's Dmitri Prudnikov having played through ankle pain in their 7-4 extra-time semi-final loss to Kairat Almaty and Sporting goalkeeper João Benedito rupturing an Achilles tendon as they were defeated 5-3 by FC Barcelona. The Sporting fans who roared on the hosts that day were back again – the crowd numbering more than 8,500 – and their heroes had the first chance when a Fábio Lima flick was blocked by Igor Trushkin, taking over from Sergei Zuev in the Dina goal.

The deadlock was broken by Dina, Esquerdinha playing a nice one-two with Serhiy Sytin before beating Cristiano. But, late in the first half, Alex scored twice in 44 seconds, first smashing in a shot following Caio's pass and then turning in Fábio Lima's cross.

João Matos, wearing the Sporting armband in Benedito's absence, got the third on the rebound after home goalkeeper Cristiano advanced and Trushkin could only parry his shot. Cristiano had another assist when his punt was met by a weak defensive header and Marcelinho made it 4-1 on the turn. Sporting were rampant and Alex's third arrived with a smart angled shot following a quick counter before he set up Diogo for the sixth with a quick one-two.

Flying keeper Esquerdinha did pull one back for Dina with a deflected shot but Cristiano punted in a seventh and ran to Benedito to celebrate. Yan Kuzenok got in on the act to reduce arrears again, only for Alex to shoot in from his own half.

After winning the regular stage with a record of 73 points, after winning Taça de Honra, Taça da Liga and Taça de Portugal, Sporting won today the 2015/16 Portuguese Futsal League.

In the final Sporting faced Benfica and won the first game in Odivelas 3-0 and lost the second game also in Odivelas 1-2. The 3rd match of the final played two days ago at Pavilhão da Luz was won 2-1 by Sporting and today again at Luz we once again won 2-1 and conquered our 13th title in the 26 years of history of the second most popular type of sports in Portugal.

A superb season with absolutely impressive numbers: 46 games, 42 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses and 221-50 in goals.
