Yes, Sporting is making a strong bet in expanding the name of the club in the Arab world. First we got Slimani, then Shikabala and now the rumours about the signing of Rabia are getting stronger every day.

Since Shikabala signed for us, and even before he touched the ball in any game, the amount of Egyptian fans that joined our social media channels was incredible.

Sporting is right now in Alexandria where we will play tonight at 20:30 CET against Al-Ittihad. Here's a funny shot of the jerseys we'll be wearing tonight with Super Bock (0,0% alcohol!) in Arabic...

This is the squad that travelled to Egypt:
Rui Patrício, Marcelo Boeck, André Geraldes, Paulo Oliveira, Naby Sarr, Jefferson, Uri Rosell, João Mário, Slavchev, Fokobo, Ryan Gauld, Ricardo Esgaio, Shikabala, Heldon, Carlos Mané, Diego Capel, Tanaka and Fredy Montero.

Marco Silva rested the players with more minutes played during the pre-season plus 3 of our 4 players that were in the World Cup: Cédric, Maurício, Adrien, André Martins, Carrillo, William Carvalho, Rojo and Slimani.

Half time comes with 1-1 on the score board. Sporting played very well during the first 10', scored a beautiful goal and showed the difference existing between the two sides. After that gradually lost intensity up to the point of letting in a really soft goal from one of the few corners won by the hosts. After that Sporting again started to control the game playing faster and creating danger.

João Mário was probably our best player in this first half. Shika and Carlos Mané looked lively at times and Naby Sarr seems very composed on the ball even if obviously looks out of sorts with his defensive partners as it's the first time he's playing with any of them.

I don't know what's worst: the Egyptian tv production or SportTV commentators. :palm:

Al Ittihad scores in the last second of the match at 90'+5' on the sequence of a dangerous free-kick. Three goals conceded in the added minutes of our three last matches, something to be looked at. 2-2 final score.

The second half was mostly dull with Sporting alternating between a very slow pace and a few interesting moves mainly through the work of Heldon and Capel, much more efficient than the two wingers that started the match. Ricardo Esgaio also looked like a much more interesting alternative to Cédric as RB than André Geraldes, at least from what I've seen so far in this pre-season.

Like against Lazio on Friday we did enough to win but if we keep conceding this type of goals we must make sure that we finish a higher percentage of the chances created.

Next match will be on Saturday in the semi final of Trofeo Teresa Herrera in La Coruña against our namesake of Gijón.

its good to concede late offside goals in pre season so the team can learn to prepare, the Spanish mafia up north will be out to get us this season and keep us down.

What didn't you like in particular?

I didn't watch the match, only the goals.

P.S. How much money did Sporting make, btw?

Oh man, it was too funny. I've watched the game with my 7 year old son and we couldn't stop laughing because at every single time that the match would stop, for a foul, a goal kick or a throw in, the tv producers would show images of old geezers hugging and kissing in the stands. :D I suppose they were probably old players of Al Ittihad because the game was included in the celebrations of the 100 years of the club.

Sporting made 400,000 EUR which is more than half of what we paid Al Ahly for Rabia. I'd say that's a pretty good deal!
