Sporting was invited by Náutico to inaugurate their new stadium Arena Pernambuco in Recife, which will be one of the stages of World Cup 2014 in Brazil.

The stadium, with a capacity of 44,000, will also host three matches of the coming Confederations Cup which will also take place in Brazil in 15-30 June 2013.

The squad is already in Recife and the game will take place this evening at 01:00 CET.

As Jesualdo Ferreira is no longer our coach and Leonardo Jardim is just starting, the team will be managed by Oceano Cruz.

These are the players that travelled to represent Sporting in the last game of the season, which for some of them may also be their last game for the club:

Goalkeepers:
Marcelo Boeck and Hugo Ventura.

Defenders:
Miguel Lopes, Khalid Boulahrouz, Marcos Rojo, Tiago Ilori and Joãozinho.

Midfielders:
João Mário, Adrien Silva, Fito Rinaudo, Ricardo Esgaio, André Martins and Zézinho.

Forwards:
Valentín Viola, Nii Plange, Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Bruma and André Carrillo.

The game is about to start and this is our line-up:

Marcelo Boeck
Miguel Lopes - Boulahrouz - Marcos Rojo - Joãozinho
Rinaudo - Adrien
André Martins
Bruma - Ricky van Wolfswinkel - Carrillo

Just one change from the starting XI that beat Beira-Mar 4-1 on Sunday with Marcelo replacing Patrício who stayed in Lisbon.

Náutico is coached by former Sporting legend Paulo Silas.

First great chance at 10' with Ricky arriving a split second late after a great ride by Carrillo on the right.

Náutico parked the bus and the game is only happening in their midfield so far.

GOLO!

1-0 at 27' to Sporting after a great pass by André Martins, van Wolfswinkel crossed and Martins himself tapped in the direction of the goal but it was Náutico's CB Luís Eduardo the last one to touch the ball before it crossed the goal line.

Right at the stroke of half time the referee decided to take the centre stage. Miguel Lopes was hit by a Naútico player and for the surprise of everybody the ref decides to send off...Miguel Lopes. :rollani:

Anyway...Náutico 0-1 SPORTING at HT

Sporting started much stronger showing clearly much more football than this very average Náutico. The first half an hour was all ours and the goal came naturally. After that Sporting took the foot off the pedal and allowed Náutico to have more of the ball and to create one goal chance but overall the scoreline is fair. This soap opera scene played by the ref at the end of the first half was ridiculous and probably finished off the game.

Oceano forced to make a change at HT after the pathetic red card to Miguel Lopes. Ricardo Esgaio came in to fill the RB position and Carrillo was the one subbed.

At 58' third sub: André Martins subbed by Zézinho.

Even with 10 men we are clearly better than Náutico.

At 82' the ref makes the perfect closing of his novela. Joãozinho lets the ball roll to Ventura, the Náutico striker dives like a dying swan and...penalty. 1-1 from the spot. :rollani:

Náutico 1-1 SPORTING - FT

Sporting had a good second half, controlling the game in spite of being one man down and being physically less fresh than Náutico, which is not surprising as we are finishing the season and the Brazilians are starting. Rinaudo and Adrien were very good in the middle and Ricardo Esgaio also came very well into the game.

Unfortunately this referee seemed to be set to spoil the party and after the ridiculous sending off decided to invent a penalty so that the hosts wouldn't go down in history with a loss in the first game in their stadium.

It was the last game of a season that we shouldn't forget, so that will never happen again.
