But Steven Spielberg is making a football video for the WC 2002, mainly based on Brazilian culture and players. Their will be tons of images from the greats: The bicycle of Leonidas da Silva, Pele, The dribble of Garrincha, the elastic of Rivelino etc...
Several shots will be taken in Brazil, and the film will ocme out just before the 2002 WC!
Also, they will use some kids that look a like with Rivaldo, Ronaldo and Romario to play the roles of these players, and the way they fit in the social Brazilian context!

Film. Se constatar uma boa qualidade de conservação, Monclar vai incluir o material em "Alegria
- Paixão do Futebol", longa-metragem, que vai contar a história do principal esporte do planeta
e terá como produtor-executivo Steven Spielberg.
O filme deve ser concluído em 2002 e tem estréia garantida em 392 salas dos Estados Unidos, em
março daquele ano, antes da Copa do Mundo do Japão e da Coréia do Sul (uma apresentação especial
está programada no Festival de Toronto, em setembro do próximo ano). O espírito será
essencialmente brasileiro, pois pelo menos metade da produção será centrada no País, entre
imagens inéditas e de arquivo. ``Teremos personagens que vão conduzir o documentário, que
deverão ser nomes como Rivaldo e Ronaldo'', conta Monclar, que vai dirigir a fase brasileira,
produzida pela Interfilm.
O diretor viajou na semana passada para a Europa. Na Alemanha, pesquisará as câmeras que deverá
utilizar - basicamente super 35 mm. Participa ainda de uma reunião em Paris com o produtor
Adrian Milne, associado a Spielberg por meio de sua empresa britânica, a Atlantic Eye. ``Será o
momento em que serão tomadas decisões importantes, como definir a data exata do início das
filmagens, em julho, e se a produção será exclusiva para o cinema ou terá uma versão para a
televisão.''
Com um orçamento previsto de US$ 16 milhões, "Alegria" terá locações em 31 países, além do
Brasil. Serão escolhidas as mais diferentes manifestações do futebol no mundo, como as disputas
dos esquimós na Islândia, quando, no verão, a neve derrete e a temporada de caça a baleias é
interrompida. ``Mas as principais histórias serão filmadas no Brasil'', conta Monclar,
experiente em filmes sobre futebol - foi diretor de fotografia do documentário "O Poder do

"Alegria". Ela esteve no Brasil em março, durante o carnaval, e surpreendeu-se com a sólida
convivência do povo com o futebol. ``Viajamos de carro de São Paulo ao Rio e ela ficou contando
os campos de futebol que encontrava na estrada'', lembra Monclar, apontando outro fator que
deverá nortear o documentário: o econômico. ``Elizabeth também ficou espantada ao descobrir que

Dessa forma, a roteirista e diretora pretende filmar desde os jogos disputados por índios do
Xingu até os campeonatos da favela do Morro Dona Marta, no Rio, onde um campo ocupa um espaço
privilegiado. E a representação dos diferentes estratos sociais será feita por sósias mirins de
jogadores famosos. Assim, um garoto parecido com Rivaldo vai representar o nordestino, enquanto
um Romarinho será o moleque do morro e um Ronaldinho lembrará um menino da classe média. ``Eles
