Andy Cole and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have both been tipped to leave Old Trafford as the reverberations of Ruud van Nistelrooy's arrival take affect.
Cole, whose £7m transfer from Newcastle in January 1995 has been dwarfed by almost three times following the arrival of the Dutchman, has already been linked with a move back to London with Chelsea and Spurs both thought to be interested.
Ironically, Spurs have also been strongly tipped to make a move for Solskjaer, who now must see even his place as United's perennial substitute in jeopardy. The Norwegian international, who enjoys cult status at Old Trafford thanks to his European Cup final winning strike, is also likely to emerge as a strong target for Leeds United - who with cash to spend - must be strong favourites for the former Molde frontman should he be made available.
But with United also chasing Spurs' England international Sol Campbell, a swap deal - plus a cash adjustment - involving either Cole or Solskjaer must be an increased possibility. Tottenham also maintain an interest in United midfielder Nicky Butt.
But while the futures of both Cole and Solskjaer are under scrutiny, England striker Teddy Sheringham is near certain to leave Old Trafford in the summer. The former Spurs striker has yet to agree a new deal at the club and with competition as fierce as ever following van Nistelrooy's arrival, Sheringham is expected to sign for West Ham during the close season.
