Official Thread for South Korea NT. :smileani:

Recently Korea's new coach, Huh, Jung-Moo announced new team squad for friendly match against Chile and WC qualifiers against Turkmenistan.

Here are the 26 players(* marked players : first NT selection)

GK : JUNG Sung-Ryong(Pohang Steelers)*
Kim Byung-Ji(FC Seoul)
YEOM Dong-Kyon(Chunnam Dragons )*

DF : KWAK Tae-Hwi*, KIM Chi-Woo(both Chunnam Dragons),
Cho Sung-Hwan, HWANG Jae-Won*, PARK Won-Jae*(all Pohang Steelers)
KANG Min-Soo(Jeonbuk Hyundai),
Lee Young Pyo(Tottenham, ENG)
Cho Won-Hee, Kwak Hee-Ju(both Suwon Samsung)
Cho Yong-Hyung*(Seongnam Ilhwa)

MF: KIM Nam-Il(Vissel Kobe, JPN)
YEOM Ki-Hun, LEE Jong-Min(both Ulsan Hyundai)
KIM Do-Heon(Seongnam Ilhwa)
Park Ji Sung(Manchester Utd, ENG)
LEE Kwan Woo(Suwon Samsung )
HWANG Ji-Soo*(Pohang Steelers )
LEE Dong-Sik*, KOO Ja-Cheol*(both Jeju United)

FW: CHO Jin-Soo* (Jeju United)
PARK Chu-Young, Jung Jo-Gook(both FC Seoul)
SEOL Ki- Hyeon(Fullham FC, ENG)

Most Capped : LEE Young-Pyo(93 caps)
Most Goals : SEOL Ki-Hyeon(16 goals in 75 games)
Oldest Player : KIM Byung-Ji(38 years old)
Youngest Player : Koo Ja-Cheol(19 years old)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some suprises in this squad. Coach HUH likes player who work hard and have discipline, strong mentality. I'll elaborate some issues.:cap:

Players who are excluded in this list are :

1. Obviously important players like FW LEE Dong Gook(Middlesbrough FC, ENG) and GK LEE Woon-Jae(Suwon Samsung) are not included because they have suspension of 'drinking incident ' that happend in last Asian Cup. :yuck::drunk: LEE Chun Soo(Feyenoord) is excluded also, coach didn't mentioned him directly, but many thinks because of his undiscipline behaviour that he showed these days.

2. CHO Jae Jin(no team):moan: , KIM Jeong Woo(no team), CHOI Sung Gook(Sungnam), KIM Dong Jin, LEE Ho(both ST. Petersburg), OH Beom Suk(Pohang) were not included because either a) haven't found a team yet or trying to go Europe b) not physically fitted after the season:groan: :wallbang:

3. KIM Jin Kyu(FC Seoul), BAEK Ji Hoon(Suwon), LEE Keun Ho:thumbsup: (Daegu) etc are not included because they are in Olympic teams. Olympic teams(U-23) are having training session in Spain now. However Olympic players like PARK Chu Young, KANG Min Soo, CHUNG Sung Ryong were selected .

Instead, Kim Byung-JI got a selection after 5 years of absence from NT, fancy playermaker LEE Kwan Woo also made a comeback and 07 K-league Champions Pohang successfully included 6 players from their squad. There are 9 new faces in this squad! Coach HUH is ready to test some players.

I'm not sure whether Korea will use 3 back or 4 back system and also the role of most important player in our NT, PARK Ji Sung:strong: So tactics I cannot easily predict about it. Generally HUH likes to play with strong defense with 3 defenders.

Absence of LEE Dong Gook and Cho Jae Jin leaves us problem that there's no decent striker who can compete well in air and keep the ball from defenders. So, it will be fun to watch how the team making attacks. :shades:

We lost to Chile 0-1 in friendly match.

I haven't watched game(which many people say it wasn't worth it to watch. Even ratings were lower than Handball game:eek: ), so can't comment specific, but according to others Huh used 3 back system.

Starting line up in Chile (3-5-2)

GK - KIM Byung-Ji
DF - CHO Sung-Hwan, CHO Yong- Hyung, KWAK Tae-Hwi
MF - CHO Won-Hee, HWANG Ji-Soo, KIM Nam Il, KIM Chi Woo
AMF LEE Kwan Woo
FW - JUNG Jo-Guk - YEOM Ki-Hoon

Worst thing is that Our NT haven't scored a goal since last July. That's almost over 506 minutes without a single goal:wallbang: :frustrat:

Coach Huh says if EPL players join, attack will be better, but who believes that?:groan:

Anyway, injury occured in NT. oldest GK KIM Byung-Ji ruled out of back pain:moan: and KIM Yong Dae replaced him. Jung Jo-Guk also ruled out of similar injury and his postion is taken by CHO Jae-Jin who is looking for teams in Europe. Huh also decided to call OH Beom Suk who was regular right back in last Asian cup. OH was omitted in list, because his movement to Russia had some problem.

Those who replaced injury players are good. But I doubt that they are prepared to play since they haven't trained regulary.

Hope coach Huh can find solution to win the game and score some goals against Turkmenistan.

Boring:sleepy: match. BTW, this game was played in China.

Besides all that South vs. North thing, this game was overhyped by media, because of 2 guys. 'North Korea's Rooney' CHUNG Dae Se :star:vs. 'ManU guy' PARK Ji Sung :boxing:

It ended up goleless.:stress:

Starting XI for South Korea

GK: SungRyong Chung
DF: BeomSuk OH, ChungSoo Lee, MinSoo Kang, YoungPyo Lee
MF: KiHyeon Seol, WonHee Cho, NamIl Kim, Ji Sung Park

That's interesting. :D

First of all, he does looks like Rooney. And his play style is like Rooney. Physical, hard working foward. He plays in J-League.

After poor result against Jordan, Coach Huh is asking KFA to release GK LEE Woon-Jae from probation. He was our GK in WC 2002, and WC 2006, but he was prohibited to join NT, due to drinking incident that happend in last year during Asian Cup. :drunk:

But my thought is that GK is not a real big problem. Center defense is. It's becoming our chronic problem since HONG Myung Bo retired.:moan:

S.Korea will be on the road to face Jordan, Turkmenistan. They're still on the top of the Group 3, beating N.Korea in goal difference. Hope they can win all 2 games. :hopeful:

Park Ji-Sung To Forego Olympics
Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung looks set to miss out on the Olympic Games after U-23 coach Park Sung-Hwa revealed he may not select him for the Beijing Games.

The United midfield man was originally included in the South Korean squad for the summer Olympics as one of the over-age players admitted, but trainer Park Sung-Hwa has now revealed that he doesn’t want to put the player in a difficult situation with his English club.

Four years ago Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze infuriated manager Alex Ferguson by insisting on representing his country at the Olympic Games in Athens.

This summer’s Olympiad clashes with the start of the Premiership season and with Korea in World Cup qualifying action later in the summer Park, could well be absent from Old Trafford for a sizeable period.

"Ji-sung is not as established as a Cristiano Ronaldo and not in a position where he has a strong opinion about a move that could stand against the club's interest" Hwa told the Korea Times.

"The Olympic tournament overlaps with the opening of the new Premier League season and joining the team in Beijing would require a lot of sacrifices on his part.

"We also need to consider his participation in the month-long World Cup qualifiers and the Manchester United training camp."

The midfielder admits that it is a difficult situation and that either way one party will lose out. "It’s not something I can decide myself" he said.

"If I play in the Olympics, I'll be able to help the juniors exempted from military service by winning a medal.

"Or if stay with Manchester United, I'll be able to devote myself to preparing for the next season. Whatever happens, there will be something I have to give up" he concluded.

Oh,I think he really looks like Rooney!:ppBTW,I don't pay any attention on those players from DPRK.Only know if any team looks down upon North Korea,it will be punished by the result!

Mr.Huh is under big pressure! You should get this 3 points against Jordan at home, but it was messed up.I watched the first goal shot by Park, then I thought there was no necessary to keep watching, result had been settled already. But next day,the coming out result freaked me out!
This is a big mistake you made,3 points can take you through obstacle, but 1 point trap you in hardship!
Beating N.K is difficult,so you must find way out from Jordan, Turkmenistan. As I know,Korean is not good at taking victory when face Western Asian NT's challendge. What's worse, you will meet them away.
So Turkmenistan is your must-win target, and you must do your best to snatch 3 points on Jordan, though it is very difficult!

Park Ji-sung disappointed in his World Cup performance
tribalfooball.com - June 09, 2008

Park Ji-sung was not happy with his personal performance as South Korea won 1-0 in Jordan in their 2010 World Cup qualifier on Saturday but knows that his team took a big step towards the next round.
The hard-fought win, which came courtesy of a first-half Park Chu-young penalty, kept South Korea in top of Group Three with eight points from four matches.

"It was a precious three points for us," said Park after the match. "But personally, I am not satisfied with the way I played.

"It is always tough to come to the Middle-East, the environment, the culture, the referees etc are different. Most teams find it tough."

A win at bottom-placed Turkmenistan on Saturday will send the Koreans into the final stage of qualification.

"Although we are confident for the Turkmenistan game after beating the team 4-0 in Seoul but we need to be careful and get the three points we need to secure our advancement."

What a shmuck!

The weather, the crowd, the referee were like playing with S. Korea, he should not say rubbish and take them as excuses for his shortcomings! Mohammed Mounir showed him who is boss in the game and he should accept the fact that a 21 old years boy managed him like if he was his wife!

Turkmenistan 1-3 S.Korea:neutral:

Upcoming English Premier leaguer KIM Do-Heon scored hat-trick.

However, still, our team's performance is not high quality and criticized in many aspects, especially defense. :relieved:

Anyway, both South Korea and North Korea qualified for final group stage regardless of last game.

S.Korea lineup(4-2-3-1)

GK: CHUNG Sung-Ryong
DF:OH Beom-Seok(27' LEE Chung Soo), KANG Min-Soo, CHO Yong-Hyung, KIM Chi-Woo
DM: KIM Nam-Il, CHO Won-Hee(45' CHOI Hyo-Jin)
AM: SEOL Ki-Hyeon, KIM DO-Heon, LEE Keun-Ho(80' LEE Chung-Yong)
FW: PARK Chu-Young

Hi, does anyone know South Korea's sports league (football, basketball etc) average attendance?
I don't know the most recent data about average attendance, but approximately...

Basketball - 4000
Baseball - 5500(in play-offs 8000~9000)
Football - 9000
Volleball - 3800

However, it really varies on teams. Some teams get like 25000 fans per game, while some teams get 6000 fans.
