South Africa (and their coach :)) nee to get a good game. The WC is coming closer and along with Tunesia they seem to be the African that is least prepared

trully South Africa seems way behind schedule in their preparations. I hope they can get their act together before the WC begins.

Ecuador will be missing 4 starters including their starting forwards, but the team is very compact so they will organized and solid overall . They will probably lack the firepower up front but it should still give South Africa a good test.

International Preview: South Africa v. Ecuador
News Archive

Kaviedes will sit this one out (AP)
04/16/2002. A half-dozen uncapped players and 18 domestic footballers highlight the South Africa squad for the upcoming friendly against Ecuador in Murcia, Spain. The Bafana Bafana will be without Premiership defenders Mark Fish and Lucas Radebe who only recently have returned to training after being hobbled by injuries.

Ahead of the Ecuador match coach Jomo Sono has led the squad from the sidelines for only three matches since taking over for Carlos Queiroz. The results are less than comforting for the African nation's World Cup hopes--a draw with Botswana and two losses to Georgia and Saudi Arabia.

For Ecuador every friendly is important as the South American country prepares for its World Cup debut. Late scratches to first choice 'keeper Jose Cevallos (thigh muscle) and national hero Ivan Kaviedes (knee) will allow for other players to step in and gain some valuable experience. Kaviedes tallied the goal for his country in the 1-1 draw with Uruguay that officially qualified the Andean nation for its first World Cup. Among the call-ups for Ecuador is Agustin Delgado of Southampton. The dangerous striker led Ecuador with nine goals in qualification, tied with Argentina's Hernan Crespo for top honors in South America.
