Portuguese international Paulo Sousa is set to sign for Greek league runners-up Panathinaikos, having arrived in Athens late on Sunday.

"I am happy to be here," the former Inter Milan midfielder told reporters. "I will work hard to make Panathinaikos successful."

Sousa is expected to sign a three-year contract on Monday following medical tests at the Athens club's Paiana training complex.

The 30-year-old who was part of the Portugal squad that reached the quarter finals of Euro 2000 said that he had been impressed by the ambition of the club's president Angelos Phillipides and had turned down offers from Bayern Munich, Monaco and Borussia Dortmund to play for Panathinaikos.

As well as Sousa, the Athens team will unveil two Croatian internationals, striker Goran Vlaovic and defender Daniel Saric at a Monday evening press conference. The pair who played for Valencia and Dynamo Zagreb respectively will both put pen to paper on four year deals.

The well-travelled Sousa, who is the only player to have won consecutive European Cups with different clubs - playing for Juventus and then Borussia Dormund - said that former Inter colleague Ze Elias's move to Olympiakos had been a factor in his decision.

The Brazilian returned the compliment saying that each match between them would be "a personal derby".
