P.S.

Razor how come you never used the poem I wrote for you? :(

I put in hours of work.

Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead!
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger...
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot!
Follow your spirit; and upon this charge,
all Anti-Argentina members, unite and
Cry, "God for Becks! England and Saint Sven-Goran!"

You put your left hand in, your left hand out
In out in out, and shake it all about
You do the hand of god and you turn around
Diego, put the English out, out, out
Ooooh Diego Maradona
Ooooh Diego Maradona
Ooooh Diego Maradona
He put the English out, out, out

only kidding ;) :angel:

Good one! :D

Actually, I watched the England-Sweden match and was very impressed with the singing supporters. Good volume and everyone in tune!!!

Fred Elliot, how about posting the words to some of the songs for us unfortunate Americans who never get to see a real match.

Cheerio!

Ta!

Three Lions by Skinner,
Baddiel and The Lighning Seeds

It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming, football's coming home (Repeat x4)

Everyone seems to know the score
They've seen it all before
They just know, they're so sure
That England's going to throw it away
Gonna blow it away
But I know they can play
Cos I remember

Three Lions on a shirt
Jules Rimet still gleaming
Thirty years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming

So many jokes, so many sneers
But all those oh so nears
Wear you down, through the years
And I still see that tackle by Moore
And when Lineker scored
Bobby belting the ball
And Nobby dancing

Three Lions on a shirt
Jules Rimet still gleaming
Thirty years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming

I know that was then, but it could be again

It's coming home, it's coming home,
It's coming football's coming home (Repeat to end)

World In Motion, by New Order

Express yourself
Create the space
You know you can win
Don't give up the chase

Beat the man
Take him on
You never give up
Its one on one

Express yourself
Its one on one
Express yourself
Its one on one
Express yourself
You can't be wrong
When somethings good
Its never gone

Loves got the world in motion
And I know what we can do
Loves got the world in motion
And I can't believe its true

Now is the time
Let everyone see
You never give up
Thats how it should be
Don't get caught
Make your own play
Express yourself
Don't give it away

Express yourself
Its one on one
Express yourself
Its one on one
Express yourself
You can't be wrong
When somethings good
Its never wrong

Loves got the world in motion
And I know what we can do
Loves got the world in motion
And I can't believe its true
Loves got the world in motion
And I know what we can do
Loves got the world in motion
And I can't believe its true

You've got to hold and give
But do it at the right time
You can be slow or fast
But you must get to the line
They'll always hit you and hurt you
Defend and attack
Theres only one way to beat them
Get round the back

Catch me if you can
Cos' I'm the England man
And what you're looking at
Is the master plan
We ain't no hooligans
This ain't a football song
Three lions on my chest
I know we can't go wrong

We're playing for England {En-ger-land}
We're playing the song
We're singing for England {En-ger-land}
Arrivederci its one on one

We're playing for England {En-ger-land}
We're playing the song
We're singing for England {En-ger-land}
Arrivederci its one on one

We're playing for England {En-ger-land}
We're playing the song
We're singing for England {En-ger-land}
Arrivederci its one on one

We're playing for England {En-ger-land}
We're playing the song
We're singing for England {En-ger-land}
Arrivederci its one on one

Back Home

Back Home, They'll be thinking about us, when we are far away
Back Home, They'll be really behind us in every game we play
They'll share, every goal we are scoring out there
We will still hear them roaring
and we'll give all we've got to give
for the folks back home

Back Home, They'll be watching and waving, and cheering every move
Back Home, Though they think we're the greatest thats what we've got to prove
Once more, we will meet with the best like before
we'll be put to the test
so we will give all we've got to give
for the folks back home

They'll see as they're watching and praying
that we put our heart in our playing
we'll fight until the whistle blows
for the folks back home

This Time

We're on our way
We are Ron's twenty two
Hear the Roar
of the red white and blue

This time, more than any other time
This time, we're gonna find a way
find a way to get away this time
getting it all together

To win them all
is what we'll set out to do
we have a dream
we know you're sharing it too

This time, more than any other time
This time, we're gonna find a way
find a way to get away this time
getting it all together

It makes you wonder
It makes you proud
to play for England
and hear the crowd
as we're marching onto victory

We'll get it right
This time
We'll get it right
This time

I love the "Three Lions" song though. Heard the belting of the song during Euro 96 against Spain. It was so moving that I almost burst out in tears.:) Even though I am not English.

paw;)

no, no, no.

what I meant was that if I have the printed words, maybe I can figure out what songs they are singing. Otherwise, the singing all sounds the same to me. You can't expect alot from an American, you know!!!!!!:D

here's one just for you Razor

the greatest sports song ever written:

"Bear down, Chicago Bears, make every play clear the way to victory;
Bear down, Chicago Bears, put up a fight with a might so fearlessly.
We'll never forget the way you thrilled the nation with your T-formation.
Bear down, Chicago Bears, and let them know why you're wearing the crown.
You're the pride and joy of Illinois, Chicago Bears, bear down."

who writes all these songs? Professional musicians, or are they spontaneous from the supporters in the stands every week?

These two seem like maybe they were songs that developed in the stands?

And also why Ingerland instead of England? Inquiring Americans want to know.

Da-da, da-da da
Da-da, da-da da

the first one (although you can be forgiven for not realising it) is the theme tune to 'The Great Escape' the famous war movie set in a German POW camp during WWII. I guess that says a lot about us that we've chosen it for our national team's theme tune

Regarding the last one, it should actually be pronounced
In-ger-lund, In-ger-lund, In-ger-lund etc etc, mainly because the metre of the tune requires at least 3 syllables from each line. ;)
