Louis van Gaal met Llorenç Serra Ferrer today to formally hand over the manager’s post at F.C.Barcelona. Ferrer will continue his role in overall charge of the club’s youth teams as well as taking on responsibility for carrying out the plans already laid for next season’s first team squad.

Llorenç Serra Ferrer has been in charge of the club’s youth policy for the last three years. He began his career in charge of Poblense before moving on to Mallorca Athletic and then to Mallorca who he twice lifted into the first division. In the 1993-94 season he managed Real Betis to promotion and to a Uefa place the following year. In the 1995-96 Spanish Cup final Ferrer’s Betis team narrowly lost to Barcelona and in the following July, he joined Barca to take charge of the club’s youth programme.
