After 4 games Cittadella, freshly promoted from Lega Pro, are leading with 12 points (4 wins). Also impressive are the other freshly promoted Pisa and Benevento, who have 7 points and are runnersup together with Bari, Frosinone and Hellas Verona. Benevento would indeed have 8 points but had one point docked by Covisoc few days ago. As regards Pisa, Gattuso defeated Brescia, whose coach is his friend and former teamate Brocchi. "A very lucky win, we didn't play well. We know we will have hard times, because we are short of players".

The coach of Cittadella is Roberto Venturato, 53 years old. He has worked in Lega Pro till he gained serie B in the past season with Cittadella. The formation he adopts with Cittadella in this season is 4-3-1-2. Most of players you probably have no clue of. The best known is probably their captain, the midfielder Manuel Iori, 34 years old, one of those players who did very well just in one club and that club is obviously Cittadella. He left Cittadella in 2009 just to come back in the past season, after changing six different clubs in six seasons. Another player most of people have at least heard of is the goalie Enrico Alfonso, 28 years old, who was one goalie of the Italian NT youth teams at all levels, from under 15 to under 21, but spent most of his career in Lega Pro. Finally you have Manuel Pascali, 35 years old, a defender most of Italian supporters ignore as he spent the brightest years of his career at Kilmarnock, with whom he won a Scottish league Cup as the captain.
Anyway, the forwards should not be omitted, no matter whether they are much less known. Cittadella have scored 12 goals up to now (4 more than Hellas Verona, while no other team has scored more than 6), Litteri is the top scorer of serie B with 4 goals, a reserve, Strizzolo, has scored 3 goals, but the true star is the Brazilian Lucas Chiaretti, 29 years old, #10, product of Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte, a career spent between Brazil and Italy, in minor leagues, a short stint at Gamba Osaka, plenty of injuries. Chiaretti had already had one good season at Taranto in Lega Pro, then Zeman called him, he signed for Pescara who had just returned to serie A, but Zeman left before the start of the season and Lucas had a bad injury which kept him out till the end of the season. He went back to Brazil, then came back to Italy, Cittadella, where he has had a formidable season in Lega Pro and has gained the promotion to serie B.

First defeat of the season for Cittadella: 0-3 at home from Brescia. Two goals and one assist for the almost 21 yo Leonardo Morosini, who will likely play in serie A in the next season. He started with Inter, but moved to Brescia very soon. He is a supporter of Inter and his idol and model is Roberto Baggio.

Cittadella (1 point in the last 4 games) are rapidly going down, while Hellas Verona (13 points in the last 5 games) got the leadership and have now 4 points more than Cittadella and 6 more than Spezia. Cittadella and Spezia also have one game more as they played yesterday the first game of round 11 and tied the match.
Pazzini is the top scorer of serie B with 11 goals.

Pisa - Hellas Verona 0-0

This game used to be serie A material in the 80s.

Gattuso's Pisa have to be the most boring team in serie B as they hardly score or concede more than one goal.

Predictably, Hellas Verona are dominating serie A. Comfortable win for them on Trapani, now tail enders and nowhere near as brilliant as they were in the past season. Entella and Cittadella are runnersup but while Entella are on the rise, Cittadella are clearly returning to the ranks. Frosinone and Perugia look like solid contenders to promotion, while Carpi's defeat to Ascoli at home raises doubts on their real aim for this season.

Cittadella absolutely hammer Hellas Verona 5:1 at home, by the end of the week Frosinone could go joint top with Hellas despite Hellas' good start to the season. Not many of the 'traditional' names in the top half of the table either this season too, could see more new faces in Serie A next season

4-0 and 5-1 losses for Verona in consecutive games...go figure.

Indeed, a lot of very small teams in the fight for promotion. Cittadella, Benevento, Spal Ferrara, Spezia...even bloody Virtus Entella. What do they draw at Chiavari, a thousand people or something? Carpi and Frosinone are of course minnows, as well, even with their stints in Serie A.

Too many of these small clubs make it to Serie A nowadays, it has lost the romance. I hope that in the end we see bigger clubs back. Verona, Bari and Perugia would be a nice combination.

Yeah, Hellas Verona, Bari and Perugia would be the best for the quality of serie A but S.P.A.L. would be a lovely return after a loooong time. Entella Chiavari and Cittadella could be new Chievos. Benevento would be another Crotone/Pescara.

thx Toni for this response. actually, i couldn't watch serie B game although that some games are live on tv. the amazing era and squad of Brescia in the 2000s ( Baggio, Pirlo... etc) attracted a lot fans for them in my region

Trapani have fired Serse Cosmi. One season ago they almost reached serie A but now they are tail ender with 11 points, 4 less than Ascoli and Vicenza.
Novellino is the new coach of Avellino. A return home for the coach as he was born 20 km far from Avellino.

Unsurprisingly Novellino lost his first game with Avellino (at home to Ascoli). He is the typical coach who lost his magic touch forever. He used to be the coach no one sacked, not even Zamparini and Gaucci, but since being the coach of Torino he has been sacked like half a dozen times (and Zamparini found rhe way to sack the one coach he had not sacked before).

Yet another 0-0 for Gattuso's Pisa yesterday night. 18 games: 7 goals scored and 10 conceded. For the ones who love to bet 17 times under 2.5 goals in their games. The one exception was their win on Ascoli (2-1) in September.

Hellas Verona have hit a rough patch of late, only 1 win from their last 5 but remain on top of the table as the teams behind them aren't consistent either. Verona's (34 point) lead is two points over Benevento, SPAL and Frosinone all on 32 points. Benevento looking for back to back promotions

League is still tight at the top, Hellas and Frosinone are now equal on points (38) while SPAL are three points behind the automatic spots. At the bottom Trapani is already doomed, only 1 win in 20 and cut way adrift, this is a team which made the playoff final vs. Pescara last season

Frosinone have jumped ahead of Hellas in the table. Teams like SPAL and Benevento are also within reach of automatic promotion, both sides themselves newly promoted from Serie C

Both Frosinone and Hellas held to scoreless draws, Frosinone stay on top but Hellas drop to third with Benevento moving into second for now  SPAL is also 1 point behind the automatic promotion spots. With respect to these teams, what are the chances they will be any better than the Pescara's, Crotone's, Cesena's?

I was checking some lineups of Serie B sides and noticed that Brescia's attacking duo are Andrea Caracciolo and Stefano Mauri.. both must be closing in on 40.
