Well the derby is here.... and what a big game it is for us as we continue to try and hunt down a shaky Inter. They play at Genoa, which can be difficult, while we have to win this game.

Here is my team for the derby.

Doni; Panucci, Mexes, Juan, Tonetto; De Rossi, Aquilani; Giuly, Perrotta, Mancini; Totti.

Vucinic ready to come on and make an impact if needed. I start with Giuly, but Taddei also ready to enter and also I go with Panucci on this occasion to Cicinho, but that is very doubtful in my mind.

I would go with:

Doni; Cicinho, Mexes, Juan, Tonetto; De Rossi, Aquilani; Giuly, Perrotta, Mancini; Totti

Cicinho doesn't need a rest as he barely featured in the first half of the season.

Giuly deserves a start, Taddei can start from the bench. I'm tempted to drop Mancini, but Vucinic is currently a bit of a supersub, so he can come on early in the second half. Amantino is in a slump.

No let ups.
Cicinho has really eased himself into the starting 11 very nicely indeed. :lick:
Heads have to be down vs. Lazio. We need full concentration and teamwork. Nice to have Mexes back. Lazio have Bianchi from ManCity this time. He and Rocchi are dangerous.

I'd be a lot happier with Panucci in the back 4 for a derby match! I also favor this line up:

Doni

Panucci - Mexes - Juan - Tonetto

De Rossi - Aquilani

Giuly - Perrotta - Mancini

Totti

with Vuci coming off the bench on the hour mark to replace Mancini. Taddei is also a bit below par but Il Mister could well let him begin and bring Giuly on to start the second half which wouldn't surprise me. On Mexes...I have a problem with this dude, he winds up too damn easy yet when he wants to be he can be what he should be!

So bloody Yin and Yang. I wouldn't mind seeing him sold in the summer provided a credible alternative could be got!

Do you have suggestions for alternative? Mexes isn't perfect I admit, but only few defenders exist in the world today who are better than him.

..and by few, I mean very few.

Mexes non si tocca. Mancini looks fat and untrained right now and more likely than ever to be sold in the summer, I´d go with Vucinic for 80 minutes and give Mancini last 10 or so. Oddo outran Mancini every single time in the Milan game by far. And I wouldn´t bench Cicinho either, he´s well rested and on fire, can´t find any reason to play Panucci.

I wouldnt mind seeing Vuci start, but then I would still give Mancini the start of this game... lets see if he can return to form. Mexes can be replaced, but then I would not want to test this... not when Mexes is really starting to get into form for us.

Mexes is world class - absolute quality.

There is no way we could do better.

I'm starting to believe Mancini should be sold also. He just doesn't look interested at the moment and if we get a huge offer, I'd probably take it -- provided we can find a viable alternative.

That's why I always thought Mancini doesn't deserve a huge salary - when he's good, he's really good, I'll grant him that. But not only he's too often in bad form, it's that when he's in bad form, he's completely useless. He doesn't run much, he doesn't work in defense, he doesn't look for the ball, he doesn't try to beat defenders, he just looks for fouls or passes back.

Having said that, he'll probably score a hattrick tonight just to prove me wrong.

Like many Brasilians, Mancini is a very "mental" player. I really feel his lack of current form is based on the fact that lately, Vuci comes in for him and immediately starts working magic in the position. Mancini has been playing there for years, and suddenly he has real competition for the spot, and I'm afraid he's shying away from that.

Its the same Oddo who kept up with Clichy stride for stride though.Oddo is surprisingly fast.

I would rest Juan.Play Panucci in CB.He did suberb against Milan.Also Aquilani must start.We dont want to be overpowered in the middle again.
