Serie A Matchday 25: Torino-Udinese

A must-win, obviously. We have not beaten Udinese at home since 2001-2002. I remember watching last season's game (0-1 to the visitors) and being frustrated by much of the same stuff we've been seeing this season. The good news is that Udinese have a pair of UEFA Cup matches on either side of this matchday. This is our expected lineup:

Ventola

Rosina

Diana - Corini - Dzemaili - Abate

Pisano - Natali - Di Loreto - Dellafiore

Sereni

Bench: Calderoni, Rubin, Zanetti, Barone, Gasbarroni, Bianchi, Stellone

Abbruscato, Rivalta, and Ogbonna are listed as injured (though Rivalta might hopefully be fit) while Colombo is suspended. Udinese have pretty much their full line-up at their disposal, though it remains to be seen what will happen in lieu of their UEFA Cup obligations.

Dammit, every game is a must win now.........:( :nervous:

I would go with the same team but Stellone instead of Ventola and I would be temptedd to start Gasbarroni too

We have a host of great wingers on this team, maybe one of the better groups of wingers in Italy (Rosina, Abate, Gasbarroni, perhaps Diana) yet they can't seem to do squat playing on this team.

I honestly would prefer Bianchi over both Stellone and Ventola, he seems to be building some of his confidence, but if it is a choice between Stellone and Ventola I too would go with Stellone. And yeah, I wonder why we aren't starting Gasbarroni ahead of Diana. Fitness reasons?

Agreed.

Strong words today from Foschi.

But the time for talk will come on June 1. Until then, the squad needs to pull together and grab some points.

It is rumored that Gasba might start ahed of Rosina...surely it would be better if he took Diana's spot?

The thing is, Diana is a hard working midfielder who can cover his side well. If we would go with Gasbarroni in his place we would lose some balance and would be weaker defensively. I think it could work but to be safe it would be better to bring him or Rosina (depending on who starts) on in the second half for Diana if we need a goal

If we were to start with Gasbarroni on the left instead of Diana, I think we should would definitely bring on either Barone or Zanetti instead of Corini to make the midfield more solid/balanced defensively as we would be losing the hard work that comes with Diana

-----------------Sereni
Dellafiore----Natali----Pratali----Pisano
Abate-----Dzemaili----Barone----Gasbarroni

Part of the reason is that I have never really been impressed with Diana on the left side. He has never looked comfortable there and with Abate in good form he is not going to switch back over and take Abate's place. I wouldn't mind that lineup you posted except for that Corini brings a very certain quality and confidence that right now no other player can bring. Balance is an important issue, of course, but we cannot afford to keep playing as conservatively as we have against the likes of Chievo and Reggina. I would personally opt for a more attacking option in this game. Udinese will be rattled after having conceded two late goals today and I hope we can take advantage of that.
For Corini to replace Barone in that formation he would have to work very hard, as would Gasbarroni............well, everyone would have to work hard, and should work hard anyways, I would try it but we know Novellino wouldn't............

Definitely. This is part of the reason I don't like Novellino - he is so inflexible that he always plays conservative football even though there are many games this season when we've needed to kick it up a notch, so to speak.

Another reason why I'd prefer something more attacking is that as you said, the whole team needs to work hard. I think this (calendar) year, they've developed a much better mentality and work rate. They believe we can stay up now and they are willing to work for that. Corini has said the last thing he wants to do with his career is help Torino to stay up. That's pretty powerful stuff if you ask me.
Bologna ? - ? Inter Milan
Catania ? - ? Reggina
Fiorentina ? - ? Chievo
Lecce ? - ? Lazio
Torino ? - ? Udinese

Centrocampisti: Abate, Diana, Dzemaili, Barone, Corini, Saumel, Gasbarroni, Rosina, Vailatti

That's good. Lecce-Lazio tomorrow, I'm really hoping Zárate gets on the scoresheet because it means good news for Toro and for my fantasy team. Still, we have to concentrate on our own match. That is the one that's most important.
