Independiente's Argentine teenage sensation Sergio Aguero says he would prefer to join his boyhood club and Champions League holders Liverpool rather than German champions Bayern Munich.

Last week Bayern confirmed their interest in the 17-year-old Aguero, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or a striker, but the Argentine talent is holding out for a move to English side Liverpool.

"If I had to choose a league then it would be the Premier League," Aguero is quoted as saying in the Munich TZ newspaper.

"I have been a Liverpool fan for as long as I can remember and it would be a dream to play there.

"I watched the Champions League final and celebrated every goal as if it was for Independiente."

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed that new signings will be made in the summer and a striker is expected with the club's shot-shy forwards firing blanks this season.

With German international captain Michael Ballack seemingly on his way to Chelsea, Bayern are also on the lookout for a new creative player and chairman Karl-Heinz Rummennigge said a bid was imminent.

"Aguero has great ability and we need to make a move before the Spanish and Italian clubs join the race, otherwise he will be expensive," Rummenigge told Bild daily.

"He certainly would not be a snip but for a young player of his quality you sometimes have to be prepared to take a risk."

Aguero, contracted at Independiente until 2007, has not been capped by the Argentine national side but is still expected to cost around 15 million euros (18 million dollars).

do you think Benitez would want a slight little guy like him though, i suppose he signed Garcia but he seems to like giants in his side?

anyway he would cost a big chunk of your transfer budget, Villareall had a massive bid turned down.

I think he'd be used in the same role Aimar was at Valencia if they got him, Jern.

Which they should, cos he's amazing.
Rafa was never keen on Aimar though.

Ive only seen one game of the kid (trust it to be his worst one against Banfield) and the highlights. If hes as good as they say and wants to go to Liverpool though, they surely cannot say no with them looking for someone in this position.

Your right Maz, were looking for forwards, if the hottest prospect in world football at the moment who happens to be a forward declares he's a Liverpool fan, then why not try negotiate?

we certainly need a player to play the position between the strikers and the midfielders a la aimar in rafa's 4-2-3-1, and now that he's offering himself and we've been linked with him, we should make a BIG effort to sign him. :)

Would he even be let in the country as a non-EU player? Look at the problems we had with Mark Gonzalez.

I think Rafa may be interested as there have been stories about him and Liverpool for about a month now and we know we've got scouts/contacts in Argentina now after the Paletta deal...plus we're looking for strikers.

He needs some caps from Argie NT, I really hope they call him up in the summer.

This boy is a great player, even if he joins Pool. :pp

No chance of playing in the World Cup but I wonder how Paletta qualified to play in the Prem?

Looked into it...Paletta doesn't need a work permit as he qualifies for an Italian passport.

Get down the registry Red...we'll get you and Aguero paired off in no time. :flirt:

If Tim Howard gets a work permit under the condition of being a "special talent" then I am sure Aguero will have no problems.

Despite his desire to join Pool I believe he will start his career off in Spain.

rafa likes players that can compete but before he gets a reputation for only buying giants he did buy garcia and he did buy morientes and alonso ,all of whom are hardly hard physical players ,he likes to mix it up thats all ,and for the premiership thats important .
