Hleb may have been a dribbler but unfortunaley he was just not alert and consistent enough in the final third to provide that killer pass.

Playing well for 1/3 of the season is not good enough. He played very well in the milan game last season..... only that one stands out in the memory.

ps : it's still a mystery to me at least why barca bought him....they are overflowing with midfielders in that position IMO. anyone know or care why?
Well Pep was going to shaft Eto'o in the summer, and he would have then played Henry as a striker which would have left room on the left hand side of the attacking 3 for Hleb.

How many games has he started for Barca this season?

Well that would have been a massive error to say the least.
Did you notice Nasri playing deep and covering the defence when Arsene made his changes in the Liverpool game?

Recently Wenger spoke to the French press about his views on Nasri and stating that he can see him playing a holding role in the midfield.

It would all fall into place. Nasri a big buy in Arsenal terms maybe not getting starting time out wide in the future with Arshavin and Walcott in the team. So Wenger plays his favourite game of converting a player to another position. Would also mean that he doesn't have to spend money.

He didn't look too bad in his role last night and is a pretty feisty player who although doesn't look physically intimdating is pretty strong on the ball. Might work out.

It's classic Wenger really. Don't think anyone predicted this on the forum? Never second guess Wenger I suppose.

Well I did notice him dropping back last night, which was good to see.
I've seen in other games that he can be defensively strong. Sp*rs away when we only had ten men I remember him covering loads of ground off the ball.
Yeah, but could he do this without Song there as well? I doubt it. I think the only way Wenger could pull this off is with a permanent three man midfield.
Yeah, Nasri and Cesc should have been switched anyways.

A move to the middle could actually help Nasri further adapt to the English game.
He was actually supposed to be CM/DM in the last France game. But in the end he didn't start at all :D

In my opinion he shouldn't be played in that position. I feel that he is being wasted.

Yeah. But the only way he could pull it off is permanently going to a 4-5-1/4-3-3 variant. It would be insane to go with a 4-4-2 with Cesc and Nasri as our two central midfielders. We'd get destroyed. Nasri would in effect play the role of the #10 while Fabregas plays his best position in the middle third, leaving the main defensive shielding and backtracking to Song or whoever. Then it would be Arshavin and Walcott out wide with Rosicky and Vela as able backups.

As well as that, if he goes to a permanent 4-5-1 than van Persie can't be that lone striker, pretty much making his future at the club redundant. It would have to be Adebayor or Eduardo with Bendtner as third choice. He would have to sell van Persie IMO.

Yeah, I'd prefer to stay at 4-4-2 myself, I'm not sure why we play 4-5-1 so much now tbh, just gives Denilson more opportunities to be poor.

However, for an away CL tie, Ade up top with AA, Nasri, and Walcott supporting him and Cesc being a little deeper could be very effective.
AA as in Andrey Arshavin? He's ineligible remember.
I think he meant in the future.

Interesting article about Nasri. It'll be interesting to see the direction this team takes in the future because it seems like we are trending very strongly towards 4-5-1 or 4-3-3.

EDIT: I think the basic thing here is that Nasri wants to be in the middle.

I'd personally rather play him at AM though. What could be interesting would be a midfield of Nasri, Cesc and Song or a different DM with Nasri and Cesc kind of rotating positions like Xavi and Iniesta do for Barca and then Toure or Keita will play a little deeper.
I was thinking that the other day as well. Its like Wenger has been watching Iniesta and sees Nasri as the same type of player. In Fabregas, Nasri and Song, you have players that are similar to that of Xavi, Iniesta and Toure. I would only like the see Nasri play centrally if he is playing in a 4-3-3 and given license to roam forward like how Iniesta is at Barca.
dont forget rosicky!! he will come back!! and could play that role in central midfield.
^ are you a wind up.
LoL:D

Nasri tried to create more tonight, than Cesc did in both legs.
Gotta reckon that. Nasri was very active tonight.
I know no one wants to hear it, but if Cesc does leave I know that Nasri can fill his place. Not as a CM, but as a CAM with Wenger changing up the formation a bit. When I see Nasri playing in the center, he is transformed into a completely different player. It is clearly where he is meant to be played.
The 4-5-1 gotta be Arshavin on the left, Cesc on the middle and Nasri on the hole behind the striker.
