Well well well...quite a few interesting results here.

Zenit lost, Rubin lost, Dinamo lost.

Loko drawing in the second half, Spartak might get DQed.

One of the following 4 teams will now be in the semis:

Tom
Tyumen
Luch-Energiya Vladivostok
Ska-Energiya Khabarovsk

Spartak win 1-0. Match had to be stopped to due Spartak fan behaviour for 30 minutes. Stay Classy Myaso.

Loko lose on penalties to Rotor.

This now means that one of the following teams will play in the final and most likely in Europe next season:

Ska Energiya
Luch Energiya
Tom
Tyumen
Rotor
Salyut
Rostov
Alania
Anzhi

This isn't good for the coefficient.

Why would the coefficient matter to you if as you put it in the Zenit forum "Zenit are not going to win the Champions League".

The same would be said for the other Russian clubs too winning any European competition.

It is because European Football is more important than our own domestic cup competiton and no matter what spin you try put on it, both you I and anyone with a heartbeat knows this.

Just because we don't have a chance of winning the CL, doesn't mean I don't like having Zenit play in it anyway. And half a dozen Russian teams could win the Europa League.

The bottom line is having Russian teams do well in Europe raises the profile of the league and makes it a more attractive place to play for players. As the league improves then maybe in a decade or so a Russian club might just have a realistic chance of winning the CL.

Having a second division team come runner-up in the cup and represent Russia in Europe won't help our standing at all.

So only two RFPL teams have left in the bottom half of the bracket: Rostov and Tom.
Transural part of Russia will have one semifinalist from the four of Tyumen, Tom, SKA-Energia and Luch-Energia.

Edit: And after the last match of the round we have only 6 RFPL teams left in the competition.

Rostov look poised to make another good run in the Cup. They've been in the semis the past three years. Will be hilarious to have Rostov beat Spartak in the final with a Dzyuba hat trick.

only 6 premier league teams made the last 16 lol.....

top teams don't care about the cup and with the games being away in poor fields elimination is quite likely.

spartak and cska on the same bracket of the draw, this means a middle, weak side will get to the final.

the only way that 6 place in the league goes to europe is cska or spartak win the cup and don't make top 2.

bye bye eurocups Rubin.:err:

I don't understand why these teams don't take Cup seriously.

It could be the quickest and easiest way to get to Europa.

Zenit doesn't want Europa.

Success for Zenit is winning the RPL and minimum getting out of the CL group stage. The Russian Cup does not make any difference and if anything success in this would hinder the RPL and CL due to more matches and more injuries/suspensions etc.

If for example Zenit finish 3rd in the RPL and 3rd in their CL Group and win the Russian Cup, Spalleti would get sacked.

I can't speak too much for other clubs but Rubin for example have a better chance of attracting good players if they do well in Europa and they haven't the squad to do well in the RPL, Europa and Russian Cup. They do have a good chance of winning the Europa League especially when Rondon comes back from injury next mont

In the Energies derby today Luch-Energia Vladivostok won against SKA-Energia Khabarovsk 3:2 after extra time (1:1 after 90 minutes), becoming the second team in the Quarter-finals (earlier this month FC Krasnodar won their tie against Zvezda Ryazan). The rest of the Quarter-finalists will be decided next year, in March.

Terek beat Mordovia 3-2 today. It was a decent game actually. I'm suprised nobody here was desperate enough for Russian footy to watch it.

The quarterfinals are shaping up to be (assuming CSKA, Spartak and Tom can take care of third division opposition):
Spartak v Krasnodar
CSKA v Terek
Rostov v Rotor
Luch Energiya v Tom

-Rostov look poised to make their 4th straight! cup semifinal and are the one hope to prevent an FNL team playing in Europe next season.
-Krasnodar v Spartak should be great. Shirokov loves to shit on Myaso.

I support FC Luch for ethnocentric reasons--their coach is Aleksandr Grigoryan. And also because of its geographical location.

Anyway, they've defeated Rubin and could probably take Zenit, too. I mean, didn't Zenit lose to like, Tyumen?

The best thing for Russia would be whoever out of Krasnodar/CSKA finishes outside of the top 5 in the league wins the cup. Then we would have 6 competent teams in Europe next season.

Edit: forgot about Spartak, 5 competent teams.

Vladivostok in the Premier League would be wonderful.

Lol, traveling to basically all away matches will be horrifying for them.

It's not as if their travel in the FNL is match better bar the one decent trip to Khabarovsk.
