Trapattoni agrees to job?
Source: Football365

Reports from Italy claim that national coach Giovanni Trapattoni has agreed to become the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the ¡¥Il Messaggero¡¦ newspaper, Trapattoni met with a representative of Spurs on Wednesday in Milan.

However, he will only take over after the 2004 European Championships.

Spurs have been looking for a high profile boss since they sacked Glen Hoddle at the start of the season, with Director of Football David Pleat and first team coach Chris Hughton assuming the responsibilities for the first team.

The duo were subsequently given the job until the end of the season with the London club determined not to rush into making the wrong appointment, but after an alarming dip in form which saw Spurs slip into the relegation zone, chairman David Levy stepped up efforts to find a replacement this season.

But with Trapattoni seemingly ready to give up the Azzurri after Euro 2004, Spurs will be more than happy to persist with Pleat and Hughton until the summer.

Spurs refuse to open Trap
By Neil Vaughan for THEspursweb.com

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR have once again refused to comment on the ongoing rumours linking Giovanni Trapattoni to the managerial hotseat at White Hart Lane.

The Italian national team coach was earlier linked to the vacant post by Italian newspaper Il Messagero who claimed the Italy coach would join after Euro 2004.

Spurs released a statement which read: "We have not commented on any speculation regarding the managerial position and we are not about to do so now.

"At this point in time, no contract has been signed with any potential new manager."

Trap rejects Spurs option Friday 16 January, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Giovanni Trapattoni has revealed his plans for the future - which seem to rule out a move to Tottenham.

The Italian national boss has been strongly associated with a switch to Spurs after Euro 2004 but he maintains that he has other ideas.

"Every year at around this time rumours start to emerge but I have a clear target," said the tactician.

"It is my desire, despite what is being written, to continue working for the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). We’ll have to see in what role though."

Trap has made it clear that he will step down as the Azzurri boss this summer and it was thought that he was looking to get back into club football.

A number of sides in Germany have been linked with his services, while he’s been strongly associated with Spurs in recent weeks.

So much so that a report in Italy yesterday suggested that the 64-year-old had reached an agreement to join the Premiership club. A claim that Spurs themselves have since rejected.

Although he probably won’t be at the helm in six months time, Trap said he was optimistic about the future of the national side.

"I have real faith in the team, as the fans should have to," he added. "However, with a 20 team Serie A next season, it will be a lot tougher to find the time to work."

Possible replacements for Trap on the Azzurri bench include Marcello Lippi of Juventus, Chievo boss Gigi Del Neri, Under-21 boss Claudio Gentile and Gianluca Vialli.

Are you sure you never missed out Chelsea, Man U on your EPL list, Juve, Inter on your Serie A list and Barcelona Real Madrid on your La Liga list? There seemms to be an imbalance... If you knew anything about football, you would know that there is no justification in supporting TWO teams in the same league.... ;)

Trap unsure of Spurs

Giovanni Trapattoni is said to be unsure over joining Spurs at the end of the season. The Azzurri Coach reportedly agreed a deal with Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy but there are new claims that Trap will not sign a permanent contract. Tottenham have hired an Italian agency Promo Sport to sound out potential candidates for the manager’s job. Newspapers suggest they have been in contact with Roberto Mancini, Giovanni Trapattoni, Hector Cuper and Francesco Guidolin.
