After a wonderful season Monaco sold him for €10m to PSG, a club that was apparently building a competitive side for the next season. Since then the team has crumbled completely, the coach has been replaced and they are sitting mid table. But while all of this was going on, Rothen spent most of the time on the sidelines injured. Is it possible that Monaco saw this coming, knew he was fragile and would need treatment and sold him while they could cash in? Why else would they sell him? Did he want out that bad? And shouldn't he have known better than to sign for PSG?

He certainly should have known better, leaving Champion league runners-up for the most underachieving club in French football.

Well who would've predicted the future to be like this? Rothen left Monaco for a number of reasons:

- He wanted to be close to his family in Paris.

- Monaco were seemingly on their way down after Giuly, Morientes and Prso left the club.

- PSG were supposedly on their way up after Halilhodzic brought PSG back to the top three in Ligue 1 - although he did have a shaky start. Not only that, but they signed big players like Yepes and Armand, so PSG were expected to progress further on.

You can understand why he moved, but it's sad to see him in this situation. His ankle injury certainly doesn't help either.
