Most of the headlines are about K2 usually but I definitely think Castelen deserves to be number three when talking about our best players. Last season our friend scored 10 goals. Not bad for a right winger. This season he's already banged in 3 from 3. Not bad for a guy who's missed more than 4 weeks of training.

Despite sometimes annoying the hell out of me last season I do believe that he is the type of guy who has the capacity to improve a lot beacuse of his character and willing to listen to instructions. With Kuijt, no-one would have said would have imagined that he'd become of Europes top 15 strikers. It's the same I believe with Castelen. Under the guidance of Koeman, I predict him to be named in the breath as Shaun Wright Phillips around the whole world within 2 years.

Hulde Castelen! :proud: hulde Wotte for getting him and hulde Gullit for spotting him! :star:

oh yes and I also believe that he should start against the Czechs. He's the man on form and also the best natural right winger we got at the moment.

I don't think Castelen is good enough to be a regular for the Dutch NT (stand-in perhaps) but he did have 10 goals (ranked 18th) and 10 assists (ranked 5th) last season. He was one of the few players who showed our beloving rightback and Dutch international Jan Kromkamp every corner of the pitch. Jan still has nightmares about that game.

Castelen still has huge upside. You notice he has played at an avarage level for years. His tactical instincts are distressingly bad and he must improve his crosspass (remember last Sunday's goal, yes that was a pass..), just like some other things. He's not a natural gifted player and that will never happen either. However, together with his blazing speed and acceleration, I sincerely believe that he could become a great player in the years to come.

who would you have on the right wing for the time being? Robben?

Thing is I don't see van Persie as an orthodox left winger anymore. He nearly always plays in the middle for Arsenal and yeah course he wouldn't mind playing on the left for oranje like Kuijt doesn't playing on the right but I'd prefer to see players play in their natural position and for the left other than Robben, I have no candidates.

Romeo's had a great comeback. His record is very impressive and for a winger he's pretty effective. Still, I'd say that if he didn't have his speed, he'd be a pretty average player.

Still, I'm enjoying his form and since he's still young, I hope we can cash in on him at the end of the season and let Vincken take over from there. ;)

I know Wally. I prefer to see players play in their natural position as well. However, I still remember some games when Castelen really played below par and somebody like Kuyt would have done an even better job on the right. That's worrysome...

We know Van Basten will stick to his theory with two wingers, so we have a problem on the right. Van Persie has a perfect cross with his left foot and he doesn't need to pass his opponent for doing that but he's playing on the right..

Zidane also has vision, able to read the game, like few others. He'd still be a type of Cocu player without his technique coz he works really hard too.

I agree with Drulo and Rata.... have my doubts on Vincken as well. But the main thing is that they score for us so we can cash in on them later :D

Lets hope he extends it :(

It's inevitable we'll lose him at some stage but I'd rather not know it for certain already so early in the season. For once as a Feyenoord fan, it's reassuring to know that we've done our homework and already have Benji de Ceulaer waiting in the wings though.

'Scouts Inter bekeken Castelen'

:lazy:

With Figo not getting any younger either, it may not be crazy as it sounds either. IF he performs like he did on Saturday too, then I don't think he'll have any problems in being good enough for Serie A either.

I fear the worst for us Feyenoorders :(

Sell him now! Before his form drops and he becomes yet a slightly above average winger.

We have Benny de Belg and Tim Vincken once he gets back. Let´s make some money to invest in a left midfielder.

More interest now.

If we get somewhere in between 6 and 8 million euros then I think we'll sell him. Just like with Gio and Konterman, these aren't bids we can't reject as a club in our state. I'd be sad to see him go as he's always been professional about his job but what can you do.

Only one year extra? :( I know we have de Ceulaer, Vincken and even Biseswar (who imo we perhaps should transform to the left) to come but Castelens definitely been very impressive this season certainly better than Kalou. The stats say enough, 7 goals in 11 games. Almost Kuijtlike.

This might be a bit off-topic Wally, but how tall is he?? He seems really small whenever I have seen him play on shows like Eurogoals...

Castelen's 1m70.
He's not the smallest in our team though, John Owoeri, also a winger but now on loan in Belgium, is 1m 58 :D  and also the smallest player in the whole league but of our regulars, Castelen along with Nicky Hofs (1m73) are by some distance the smallest.

I don't get it either. I thought he already extended his contract until 2008. :frownani:

I assume he didn't want to extend for longer otherwise I don't understand this policy. This means we are forced to sell him after next season.

Owoeri , can't really tell mate, he's only played like 3 minutes for the first team. He apparantly did well for our reserve team before we sent him on loan to Westerlo in the winterbreak but he'll have to do well in Belgium if he wants to remain with us as his contract ends in the summer.

That said we do have an option to extend by 2 or 3 years and I hope he'll make it since we need someone able to play on the left wing with Kalou possibly leaving and cos all our young talents (Biseswar, Vincken, de Ceulaer) are right wingers.
