Piazza Affari scommette sulla vendita della Roma:
i titoli balzano del 23%, Rosella Sensi smentisce
Rosella Sensi

This was put today on Goal.com:

Sensi: Roma Will Not Be Sold

The daughter of Roma President Franco Sensi has stated in no uncertain terms that the club will not be sold.

Earlier this month there were strong reports in the Italian media that Roma would have to be sold due to the fact that the club's parent company, Italpetroli, had accumulated debts in the region of €370m.

"We are calm and tranquil,” Rosella Sensi told Mediaset.

“We are going forward in our restructuring plan. We are working constantly and we have overcome a difficult period.

“The players can focus on the next matches, just as they did during the game with Fiorentina, without being distracted.”

A number of businessmen have been linked with a take-over, including Liverpool FC co-owner Tom Hicks, and the American sports marketing veteran Jeff Slack.

"There will be no sale of Roma,” she stated categorically.

There is no need to sell Roma in order to rehabilitate Italpetroli. I am tired of having to continually answer these questions, and I hope that I don’t have to repeat myself again.”

Sensi has always maintained that the club will forever stay within the family.

Roma is ours, nobody can touch it,” she said several weeks ago.

The club will remain with the Sensi family. There will be trouble for anyone who tries to touch it. My father is still alive and continues to play an active role within the club.”

AS Roma Surges After Victory Against Fiorentina (Update1)
2008-02-25 12:07 (New York)

By Armorel Kenna
Feb. 25 (Bloomberg) -- AS Roma SpA, one of Italy's three
publicly traded soccer teams, rose the most in more than three
and a half years after a match win against Fiorentina yesterday.
Rome-based AS Roma rose as much as 14 cents, or 22.8
percent, and closed at 74 cents, up 21.8 percent in Milan,
giving the company a market value of 97.6 million euros ($144.6
million). That was the stock's biggest one-day gain since June
2004. The shares were temporarily suspended for excessive gains.
AS Roma beat Florence-based Fiorentina 1-0 in Rome,
maintaining its second-place position in Italy's Serie A soccer
league.
Separately, Italian news agency Ansa reported that the
Sensi family doesn't want to sell its stake in AS Roma, citing
Chief Executive Officer Rosella Sensi.

I don't wanna believe it, but shares don't rise that much on an ordinary 1-0 win. :nervous:

But you forget the rather substantially more impressive 2-1 against one of the sporting world's most famous brand names.

Indeed... Cant believe it can be the biggest one day gain because of a 1-0 win over Fiorentina.

Coupled with Sensi's reassurance that the club is staying in the family's ownership....maybe. All I know in the past five years there have been a couple of these surges and they've closed the stock for trade for the rest of the day, but it never was because of an impending ownership change, as has been speculated every single time.

The shares price most probably rose because of rumours of a new owner and a possible offer to the Sensis (I think there was a Gazzetta article about this on the same day) . Whether there is any truth in this rumour is anyone's guess, but even if there is, I don't see the Sensis selling right now.

I love Franco Sensi as he is a real Romanista and gave up personal assets to save the club from the financial ruin he put us in to win the title in 2001. I will always be grateful and never forget that. I also think Rosella has grown in her role and has impressed me the past 2 years.

But if selling the club means a boatload of more money and us being more competitive where 2nd place is no longer considered a great season....then I hope we sell. I want to win. Finishing 2nd in 2002, 2004, 2006 (via calciopoli), 2007, and likely 2008 is just killing me. I want another Scudetto...more for Totti and De Rossi than anyone else. I want Totti to be the first Roma player to ever win the Scudetto with the club twice....and I want De Rossi to get a title with Totti.

Selling wouldnt be a disaster, aslong as its someone with more financial clout and ambition then the Sensi's (otherwise it might aswell be in the family bussiness), and its not the short term thinking careless owners like Liverpool and the rest have that can ditch you any minute.

Tall order to find a mix like this, and not sure how many insanely rich italians there are (even more Romanisti would prolly want to restrict it to Romans), but it might be a serious consideration to look into if a serious and competent bidder comes along.

COMUNICATO CONGIUNTO A.S. ROMA-COMPAGNIA ITALPETROLI S.P.A.

But the thing is there are no prospective buyers...the failure of 2005 (was it? or 04?) when no one stepped up to the plate proved this. Not Toti, not anyone.

I don't think it's feasible to see a new owner richer than the Sensis. And even if we do get one, it doesn't mean success (Liverpool-induced cough attack)).

The financial situation in the club is way better now though than it was a few years ago, sportingly we are also doing very well so I think it's possible for a serious investor to be attracted. Though I still think it's just a rumour for now.

What I find especially hard to believe about these speculations is the exclusive focus on foreign buyers in media. When I tried to buy shares back in 2004/2005, they called me from Trigoria and explained that they would not under any circumstances sell shares to foreigners. The policy they made in the middle of that process and presented to me is so far away from the theories about takeovers now. So far away that it is impossible to believe in.
