A copy and paste from my post in the secret portal witht he hopes of creating some discussion, lest I be forced to work this week instead...
With every new season, hope springs eternal among us Pollyannas. Rui's been working hard to help us forget an unforgettable 4th place finish that saw 3 coaches crash and burn during its season. Should be noted that the last time we won our opener, we won the championship. Anything short of a spactacular opening will have fans jump ship and scream for Quiques' head after 1 week.

Likely starting 11-

Quim
Pereira, Luizao, Katso, Leo
Urreta, Yebda, Martins, Reyes
Cardozo, Aimar

Many new faces, but some old doubts remain, RB, to me, being the most obvious one. There are questions whether Yebda can fill Petit's role as enforcer as well. He's showing some positive glimpses as a guy who makes a decent pass, but seems to shy from the big tackle ala Binya - whose aim is to maim - or Petit. He needs to show some toughness there. Or I think we'll see Binya or the young Felipe Bastos if he can't stop the counter.

On the other hand, I'm dying to see Reyes and Aimar play together for a full game. Aimar's one-two touches are brilliant. With two speedy wingers like Urreta and Reyes, he could really make holes in opposing defenses. Cardozo has been playing brilliantly, showing that he can score frequently with service from the wings.

Can't wait to see how it pans out.

If we're to believe Freud, that slip probably suggests the author merely has a case of man love for one of his idols. I'm comfortable with that.

HT with no goals

very boring game so far, very slow, and clearly showing that its not easy playing with 5 new faces, specially when they are all in the midfield

hopefully we'll play a bit faster this second half and better linked between the sectors. Or else i will fall asleep

still we could have scored, as we already hit the bar

the injured carlos martins had to be replaced by filipe bastos , more or less half an hour into the game.

players wise, only attacking combinations have come from leo and urreta. the right flank is dead and buried. while in the game, carlos martins shot a couple times

other than that, everyone has been pretty invisible so far

starting line -up:

------------quim-------------

maxi ------luisão ------ katsouranis -------leo

---------yebda ---------carlos martins ( filipe bastos)

ruben amorim ---------aimar -------------urreta

----------------cardozo-------------------

Very confusing lineup, Ruben Amorim ain't no winger. In the meantime, our best winger is on the bench???

Martins has concussion. Will most likely sit out next week. Good news for Porto.

ruben amorim replaced by nuno gomes at HT

and after a great defense from quim, we somehow suffer one very confusing goal

yet, less than a min afterwards...nuno gomes scores the 1-1:D

and from the fog ( who was pretty thick almost all game long) there was no s-sebastião showing up to save us

FT 1-1

overall its a fair result, as yes, we did have a upper hand, but not much

very boring game, even if it did improve in the 2nd half. there's still a lot of work to be done, routine's to be created and a lot more nergy to put on the pitch

Last year you've started the league by drawing away against a recently promoted team...this year...the same. Is this an omen?
