06/20/2002. Although indirectly, FIFA finally admitted that Italy have been seriously damaged by the men in black. Two of the four referees who directed the matches played by the Azzurri in this World Cup, namely England's Poll for Italy-Croatia and Ecuador's Moreno for Korea Republic-Italy, have been sent back home. Their poor performances were judged negatively by FIFA's refereeing committee, represented by members Roth Volker and Mendez Codesal.

According to FIFA sources, Moreno made a major mistake in booking for the second time Francesco Totti, who was ejected following a supposed dive inside the Korean box. This decision was judged "wrong by the inspectors and by FIFA's refereeing committee, because Moreno didn't take into account the dynamics of the play". Furthermore, the Ecuadorian referee admitted that "he didn't remember that Totti had been already booked".

As for Poll, the English match official was judged negatively because he "accepted supinely the decisions of the linesman" and especially for "not having seen an elbowing by a Croatian player, despite being very close to the zone of the field where the fact took place".

For all u Italy bashers. this is the proof that FIFA has admitted that their refrees had made mistakes, what mistakes (BLUNDERS) against Italy.:fero:
All u ppl who said that Italy were not wronged, this article is for u.:fero:

what about the elbow by the italian player on Niko Kovac that led to him receiving treatment for a bloody nose? no yellow card and not even a free kick for Croatia.

A bit too late to admit the glaring mistakes, isn't it? :rollani: Is this only to make FIFA feel better?

What a coincidence! Moreno met the Italian NT in the airport on their way back to their country! I wonder what happened there?

Yeah, ref made some mistakes but why don't you accept it, Korea played at least twice better than Italy.

Actually, it is well seen that Italian soccer is going worse every year. Last year i can't even stand watching Serie A matches. So boring games. And Trap carried that ****ing Italian defensive tactic to the World Cup. Do you think that people will respect Italy with that crap defensive style.

And Totti's diving was surely yellow. But what differs, with or without Totti, Korea was more solid than Italy.

FIFA is all talk and no action!! If they admit the referee in the match against Korea made a mistake then they should have the match played again!! But that won't happen of course... 'for the good of the game', yeah right! They should change their credo to 'good for nothing'!!!!

galatyphoon, Italy's "crap defensive style" beat your turkish ass in Euro2000. Remeber that feeling?... you'll feel it again tomorrow!!!

FIFA acknowledge Totti mistake Friday 21 June, 2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ecuadorian referee Byron Moreno was wrong to dismiss Francesco Totti in the controversial defeat to South Korea according to FIFA.

Edgardo Codesal, a member of the world governing body’s refereeing committee, admitted that television evidence clearly shows that the Roman did not dive and therefore didn’t deserve his second yellow of the game.

"If you freeze the action you can see that there is contact between Totti and a Korean defender," maintained Codesal.

"It was a very tough situation for the referee because the game today is played at such speed. And it is impossible to see everything."

The Italian media have been crying foul since the Azzurri’s last 16 elimination but Codesal dismisses claims that there was a conspiracy against Giovanni Trapattoni’s men.

"Officials are honest men and try to do their best," he continued. "Errors by referees are part of the game. Just as a player or a Coach can make a mistake, so too can a match official."

Codesal, who was in charge of the 1990 World Cup Final, added: "We need to be more human with the referee. And let us not forget that there has been a low rate of errors at this tournament. I would say one per thousand decisions."

Nevertheless, the Azzurri could be right to feel hard done by after they had five goals ruled out in three games because of dubious offside decisions.

Totti never dived. Maybe back home on the beach but not on the field. Anybody with a little sense (or two working eyes) could see that it was a clear penalty, like in the books. Definitely a penalty. In the extreme case of deciding against a penalty, it wasn't a dive anyway, he really did fall, and it was obvious he wasn't making any performances. he's also not that kind of player (Inzaghi is but Totti isn't).... so it was a wrong decision and I hope the referee gets killed in a freak accident....
Now, with that being said, the Italian players should have played better worthy of what they know from playing in Serie A, the best league in the world, especially this year when it was such an exciting and thrilling league with Juve winning the scudetto only in the last round and Inter and Rome being so good too.

The saddest thing is the waste of the beautiful shirts that they made for the team, made of a special material (meryl) that should have proved decisive with those refree mistakes, but that failed too.

So you think Korea played so well. Your just like every other person, that judges good soccer by the possesion percentage. To me, Korea where running around very fast indeed. Like chickens without a head. Korea, with there style of play, is able to disrupt any good team. Watch with Spain tomorrow. So, according to your observation, and forget the team you dislike right now, did Germany play better the the US today ? If yes, you are 100 % anti-Italian. If no, then why did Germany win this match ? The score was only 1-0. Now is it only the Azzuri that is allowed to get bashed in this WC or does this go with every other team and nation too ? And, there were other examples in this WC too. Gemany has not played one good game to date, forget the Saudi game, yet no one dare talks about them. Let me add, if you can't stand watching Serie A, then don't.

So, I see that the forum is getting more quiet as the days go by. Korea, a running team that can confuse any good team. Now, Spain crashed out. What a great thing to have Korea take out three world class teams. How lucky can Brazil be, here's a team that barely qualified, for once were up against some of the best sides in the WC ever, and all failed to even give Brazil a run. The Samba music is roaring until the early hours and there isn't even anyone to stop them. What a great WC for those who know nothing about the game. Congratulations FIFA. Viva Brazil !!!
