MADRID, May 18 (DS) - Spanish clubs Real Madrid and FC Barcelona intend to sign S.S. Lazio Argentinean striker Hernan Crespo, the Argentinean newspaper Ole stated. Despite the fact that Royal Club sports director Jorge Valdano has conducted negotiations with Crespo's agents Mascardi and Hidalgo, Barcelona are not going to concede. Barcelona chairman Joan Gaspart has asked player's agents to meet on Tuesday. Gaspart said that he is going to make an alluring offer. According to some sources, Gaspart is ready to offer Crespo a five-year contract with 4.5 million dollars for per season. This sum is more than that of Royal club's offer. But the fact is important that the player wants to perform in Real.
Real are ready to offer 36 million dollars plus one of the following players - Savio, Flavio Conceicao, Fernando Morientes and Steve McManaman.
Lazio want Real to bid farewell to midfielder Santiago Solari, but the midfielder is not in the transfer list of the Royal club.

I'll say he should go to Barca instead of Real, they already had Morientes and Rauk, and they're chanpion!!! it's kinda difficult to replace (steal) champion's place :)

Good luck Crespo + well done ..

Lazio demands £32M plus Rivaldo for Crespo

May 21, 2002

Barcelona president Joan Gaspart has been told it will cost him £32 million - plus Rivaldo - to sign Hernan Crespo from Lazio.
Gaspart has already held talks with Crespo's agent, Gustavo Mascardi and the two clubs will meet today to further discuss the move.

Trainer Louis van Gaal will meet with his technical committee this week to discuss Barcelona's squad.

Crespo, along with Inter Milan's Clarence Seedorf and Bordeaux goalkeeper Ulrich Rame, are all high on the Dutchman's shopping list.

Italian adventure over for Crespo
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hernan Crespo will quit Italian football this summer in favour of a switch to Spain, according to his agent.

The Argentine forward has been linked with a move away from Lazio in recent months and now Gustavo Mascardi has confirmed that his departure is imminent. With Barcelona and Real Madrid battling for his signature.

"Talks for his transfer are at an advanced stage and there could be some major news in the next few days," Mascardi told an Argentine radio station.

"It will be good for Hernan to change his scenery and not only because of the financial deal involved."

Crespo has hinted in the past few months that he was disappointed with Lazio’s lack of competitiveness in Serie A and that a Spanish move would be welcome.

Reports suggest that Barcelona are ready to offer cash and Brazilian Rivaldo who is almost certain to leave the Nou Camp this summer.

While European champions Real are ready to table cash plus striker Fernando Morientes and midfield player Flavio Conceiçao.

The former River Plate starlet joined the Olimpico outfit in the summer of 2000 for £35.7m and repaid the club with 26 goals in 32 Serie A games in his debut season.

However, the last campaign saw the international struggle with poor form and fitness problems.

The cash raised from his proposed sale will increase transfer funds and help reduce the wage bill in time for Lazio’s introduction of a salary cap for the new season.

Crespo’s sale could also put an end to the voices surrounding Alessandro Nesta’s future. It seems highly unlikely that the club would release two of their best players in the same summer.
