We need a win to take over first place.
Players called for the match:

Moreira, Reyes, Cardozo, Katsouranis, Mantorras, Balboa, Quim, Fellipe Bastos, Maxi Pereira, Ruben Amorim, Urreta, Makukula, David Luiz, Carlos Martins, Jorge Ribeiro, Yebda, Sidnei, Miguel Vítor and Suazo.

Nunoid and Aimar are still hurt, notice Mantorras getting the call.

A win and we're in first place by ourselves, won't make anyone forget the 5-1 thrashing in Athens but it'll do for the moment.

5 minutes in which 3 were to wait for Sandro to get out of the field and another for their GK to hit the godamn ball. Ah, and an unbelieavable disallowed goal to Suazo. Nothing new here. It's Portugal.

I cannot believe you're going to blame those things after that Quim did. Absolutely unbelievable.

Here's the beef, Score was 2-1, Reyes gets fouled and we keep the ball:

Would have been 3-1 with 10 minutes left, Sandro should have been sent out.

Doesn't bother me too much as long as we can hang arount the top because the team should only get better in the second half of the season.

Just my 2 cents.

Quique Flores:

in O Jogo, 02.12.208

I have no problems in saying that I really like this guy. I wish the fans of his club could learn something from him but that is of course asking too much.

Ref saying play on right before the final pass.

Play on, which was followed by an offside. I concede that he should have given a 2nd yellow to Robson for that foul but that's really not the real reason why you've choked on this one.

Benfica is apparently still "under construction" but probably it's about time you start thinking of taking off the scaffolding from your team, or else the usual suspects will once again get away with it.

There is no offside. If there was, then that should have been the call given he had waved the play on. The goal was valid, which would have effectively sealed the deal.

Having said that, Quique is correct - he can not blame the officials and shouldn't. His job is to get the job done despite what unforseen and uncontrollable obstacles, undeserving or otherwise, including attrocious officiating, the team is faced with during the course of the game. He may be the only coach in Portugal with the ability to do that, unlike the Bentos and Jizzwaldos of the Liga.

However, we're not the coach. We have no direct or indirect control over what goes on on the pitch. We're spectators. As spectators, we have every right to call something a duck when it quacks, point out body odor when it smells (Portistas), the dullwitted when it gags in its own drool (Felipe). I consider it a duty. Coaching, we'll leave that up to Quique.

And it's Artur Soares Dias for our next game in Funchal, against Marítimo. Yes, like last night's ref, he's also from Porto - the greatest of all football associations in the country with an impressive record of producing referees, leaving the rest of the nation in the shade. :proud:
