Yeah, so starting this a little early this year, so we can use it for the summer rumour mill too.

Personally, I'm hoping for a good summer. I just want class players to arrive, otherwise don't bother and just have crap English ones. No more Jimmy Kebes please, Coppell.

The "big" rumours today are Daniel Van Buyten to Aston Villa and Mehdi Nafti to Wigan.

Van Buyten I wouldn't mind. He looked great in England before he got hurt when he was at Man City and although he isn't doing that great in Munich, he did well at Hamburg and I think he suits the English game. Good enough to get a pass for a mid table side for me. Although it would make me question what happens with Curtis Davies.

Nafti is shit and should be sold to an MLS team ASAP.

Maybe you should have two threads, one is the rumour mill, which will only have the players name, present club and "rumoured" club and the other is the real transfer, then we can see how good the newspapers are getting it wrong.

Na, discussion is far more conducive to one thread.

Van Buyten would be a good move if he can stay injury prone. He was good as you say, with Man City.

I'm interested to see what happens with us over the summer. We have an awful lot of dead wood on high wages who are going to be extremely hard to shift.

Here is my list of people I hope feck off in the summer.

Emmanuel Eboue (though if he went to play RB for someone mid table I'd maybe be okay with that)
Patrick Berger (thanks but too old)
Thomas Sorensen (A bit useless now)
Medhi Nafti (Shit)
Rahdi Jaidi (Super shit)
Franck Quedrue (Okay but his time has come)
Rafael Schmitz (Rubbish)
Richard Kingson (WTF?)
Zurab Khizanishvili (Distinctly average)
Stephane Henchoz (Way past it)
Bruno Berner (Rubbish)
Abdoulaye Méïté (Doesn't want to play and isn't good when he does)
Mikel Alonso (Wank, I can only assume they picked him up because he's related to someone good)
Ricardo Vaz Té (Abysmal)
Tamir Cohen (Average)
Daniel Braaten (Comical watching this guy even run)
Grzegorz Rasiak (Please stop giving this guy prem chances)
Claudio Pizarro (Plays in reverse gear nowadays)
Andy Van Der Meyde (go drink and gamble yourself to death somewhere else)
Thomas Gravesen (Dunno what happened to him in Spain but he's shit now)
Phillipe Christenval (How did he manage to play for Barca?)
Simon Elliott (Shit)
Andriy Voronin (Average)
Charles Itandje (WTF?)
Emile Mpenza (Does nothing but run hopelessly)
Sun Jihai (Used to like him, wank now)
Dong Fangzhuo (Unless Utd really need that shirt money)
Lee Dong-Gook (Dunno what anyone saw in this guy)
Claudio Cacapa (Terrible)
Useless De La Cruz (Never been good in England but managed to stay a while)
Jimmy Kebe (Who?)
Benoît Assou-Ekotto (How is he still at Spurs?)
Ricardo Rocha (Not suited to the prem at all)
Jonathan Spector (Shit)
Antoine Sibierski (Lucky but rubbish)
Julius Agahowha (Dunno what happened here but he's been abysmal, redefined the word infact)
Rachid Bouaouzan (Dunno what the point in him is)

Everyone else may have another year. Plenty I wouldn't be sad to see go, though.

Rob you heartless git, Useless has been good for us when call on and well Jimmy has played 2 games.

Coppell loves the obscure signings and more often then not they are a success.

Imo, Coppell's transfer record since he got promotion has been pretty poor. Which is weird, because his record before you went up was excellent. All your most important players are ones you had before for me and only Bikey and Rosenior look like decent signings (though I wouldn't say either have been good).

Yeah, he can piss off too, only reason I didn't list him is because Derby are already relegated. I'll swap him with Abou Treika for Egyptians over here.

From France like usually severals players should cross the channel : i think some EPL club will snap Källström and Mensah. Maybe Briand...

Ghaly's only on loan though so he'll be back to us :wallbang:

We'll gladly swap him for Treika.

Kallstrom has been quite heavily linked with Everton recently. Though I'm not really sure where he fits into their team, with Cahill and Arteta taking the attacking spots. He's better than Osman, but I don't know if he'd play that position especially well.

Mensah has been linked with Reading again and also Portsmouth, Portsmouth rumour would make sense.

Not heard anything about Briand.

Other Ligue 1 players linked are...

Babafembi Gomis (Newcastle)
A bunch of kids (Arsenal)
Djibril Cisse (Vast majority of midtable clubs)
Samir Nasri (Newcasle and Liverpool)
Johan Elmander (Bolton last, but lots of teams would be in for him, style suits England)
Karim Benzema (Man Utd)

That's about it at the moment, even though at least 10 players from France always make the move. Should pick up nearer the time. We need our annual Govou and Mendy links.

True, I would also add Matejovsky aswell.

The issue we have is that we have a set structure with what we can offer players, which is smart as we don't want to bankrupt the club but restraining as we want to sustain a decent Premiership team and because of this we won't be going for the players that are requesting 25k+ a week in wages which for that step up in quality is what we would need to fork out.

This is the reason why the Chairman has basically been trying to get a buyer the moment we reached the Premiership as he doesn't want to pay stupid money.

Yeah, Matejovsky has been good so far, oversight on my part.

And yeah, I realise you have a limited budget. But it doesn't explain to me why he was able to find good players when you were in the championship, players who've been able to make the step up to the premiership with little problem and once you get promoted, he suddenly signs a bunch of muppets.

Honestly, with his current record just hope noone leaves. Shorey or Doyle going would be a massive problem if he replaces them with some random African player from the reserves of Lille.

But to be fair, apparently he's trying to get Jozy Altidore, which I think would be a good signing, even if it might take patience.

Aboutreika is probably too slow and weak for the Prem.

I don't think he's slow. Depends how you set the team up.

Striker wise, I tend to think the ones most likely to fail horribly are tall strikers who are good in the air in leagues where you don't get nailed in the back everytime the ball is in the air and build up a reputation for being good aerial players who would be suited as a result. Morientes, Borgetti and Bianchi all fit that for me. More built aerial specialists like Elmander would be okay as people like Carew are.

But I don't think Abou Treika really fits that description anyway, he's more of a Santa Cruz type all rounder, imo. I mean Santa Cruz, not that quick, not that strong, lots of goals.

I am not just talking about slow physically, which he is, but a slow footballer. He takes too much time on the ball, likes to walk with the ball and take touches. Loads of games will pass him by just like they are doing now with Nery Castillo. Although Castillo has the ability to adapt his game, I dont think the Aboutreika does.
