Allright, so this years pre-season will start in Åland where Atlético will play a finnish top-division team, IFK Mariehamn. The game will be played on the 2nd of June, right after Primera División ends and most of the players have gone to represent their NT's. This game is played because Atléti signed a deal with a finnish betting company called PAF, so they're going to sponsor it as well.

The players will get their holidays after this and most of them will be long gone after Atlético closes the league against Almería, two or three days earlier.

Pre-season 2009 will start somewhere between the 9-12 July this year, that's when all the players come back from their holidays. Raúl García, Jurado and perhaps Camacho would be the exceptions as they could take part in some of the youth tournaments.

The coaching staff and players will go to Los Ángeles de San Rafael, just like they always do in their first week during pre-season. Atléti is supposed to be there for 7-9 days.

The first game is supposed to take place against Benfica as a part of the whole José Antonio Reyes-deal last season. It'll probably be in Portugal. AS mentioned earlier this month that Atléti will most likely take part in Amsterdam Tournament between the 25-26th of July, just like we did back in 2007, but nothing is confirmed yet, the same goes for the whole Benfica-thing.

It has been confirmed by Arsenal, that Atlético will take part in Emirates Cup 2009 this summer. It'll be between hosted by them between the 1-2nd of August. Atléti will play Arsenal on the first day and PSG the following day.

Liverpool is supposed to visit Liverpool on the 9th of August, but I wonder if that'll happen if Atléti manages to get that fourth spot and has to qualify for UEFA Champions League. Anyways, the same source as before says that we'll play a game at Anfield and then one next summer in Madrid on Vicente Calderón. It didn't work out last year so maybe it will this time.

Atléti will play Trofeo Teresa Herrera this year as well, the tournament is supposed to take place between 12-14th of August, but it all depends on what spot the team manages to take.

Camacho will have surgery on July 7th
Ignacio Camacho will under go an operation on Tuesday the 7th of July. The Atlético de Madrid midfielder suffered a coxalgia on his right hip which limits his mobility. The player’s hip has been bothersome for some time such that it became advisable that he receive the operation so as to be in condition to play when the League Championship kicks off.

Nacho will be out for around 2 months after his surgery, so he'll miss the pre-season as well this year.

Abel Resino selected 25 players that he'll be counting on during the pre-season camp at Los Ángeles de San Rafael. Great news for our fellow canteranos, such as Joel, Koke, Keko, Pacheco and Borja while the newcomers will be a part of it as well.

I'm only missing César Ortíz and David de Gea, but I guess Cabrera will be given a chance at LB and cover up for Pernía.

Very happy for Borja, Pacheco, Koke and Keko :proud:

It's appereantly a done deal, but we're still awaiting confirmation from the club. It seems like Álex Quillo will be leaving for Recreativo as a part of the whole deal. Two keepers for now.

Antonio López will be the new captain for Atlético de Madrid for the 2009/2010 season

The Argentinean player for Atlético de Madrid Maxi Rodriguez, who held the captain’s position since the departure of Fernando Torres three seasons ago, has given the captain’s bracelet to teammate Antonio López. The footballer from Benidorm will now act as captain during the 2009/2010 season. Along with López, Diego Forlán and Simão Sabrosa will act as second captains of equal rank.

Atléti just beat Benfica with 2-1 in Portugal, good considering they're behind them in the preperations. The defence looked comical again though, oh well, can't be good with Pablo in it.. :D

Atléti are playing at 60-65% and still leads 2-1 but the defence is horrendous as always and they could've scored more goals. We're effiecent as always though :D

Right now we are playing against Sunderland.

The starting eleven was:

Roberto
Valera, Pablo, Ujfalusi, Domínguez;
Sinama-Pongolle, Koke, R. García, Reyes
--------Jurado ----------------
-------Forlán-------------

Subs: Agüero, P. Assuncao, Simao, Cabrera, Joel, Borja, Pacheco

Jurado got injured and Simao replaced him. I am surprised that Sinama is still playing in the right side when we have 2 wingers now in Simao & Reyes. I would move Simao to right side and Sinama upfront to partner Forlan.

Sunderland up one goal after Valera conceded a penalty, a bit ironical considering Malbranque should've been sent off for two nasty challenges on the same player.

I hope Jurado is allright and it would be nice to see Borja, Cabrera and Pacheco play in the second half.

Horrendous game really, not much to add other than Pacheco and Borja wanted to do something about the result. Oh well, a week of training and then it's time for the Emirates Cup in London.
