Ole ole ole ole :)

yes we have done it, i knew we would!

sporting took advantage of a tired fcp in the league, but in a fresh cup final we proved who the best team really is.

this is a great end to the season, and i would like to congratulate fernando santos for his excellent team talk at half time which rejuvinated the players.

many thanks to rui barros and a wonderful career he has had.

best wishes to mario jardel and vitor baia where ever they may be next year.

now....lets party!!!!!! :)

Porto's Brazilians clinch Cup final victory
LISBON, May 25 (Reuters)(DS) - Goals from two Brazilians won
Porto their 10th Portuguese Cup on Thursday as they beat
Sporting Lisbon 2-0 and gained a measure of revenge against the
team that have just ended their five-year reign as league
champions.
The match was a replay forced by a 1-1 draw after extra time
on Sunday.
Sporting, who were without their top scorer, Argentine
striker Alberto Acosta, missed repeating their cup and league
double of 1982, the last time they won both trophies.
Portuguese international goalkeeper Vitor Baia made a
successful comeback for Porto after a two-month absence because
of a knee operation, and he has now been called up for the squad
for Euro 2000.
Porto put on the pressure during the first half but missed
several chances, notably by Brazilian striker Mario Jardel, the
league's top scorer.
But another Brazilian striker, Clayton Cruz, opened the
scoring in the 49th minute with a shot from an acute angle near
the goal line after seeing Sporting 'keeper Peter Schmeichel
stranded in front of the goal and tucked the ball behind him.
In the 73rd, Porto made it 2-0 with a spectacular goal by
Brazilian midfielder Deco Sousa from a swiftly taken free kick
from 20 metres that gave Schmeichel no time to move.
In the final 10 minutes Sporting desperately tried to get
back into the match and even Schmeichel joined the attack for a
corner kick.
Sporting ended the game with 10 men after their Spanish
substitute Tonito Gonzalez was sent off for a clumsy foul.

we showed who the top dog in Portugal really is. We took 2 of 3 from SPorting this season, not counting the first cup final. DECO'S goal was a beauty and I wish he got those goals in a "bad" period this season...then we would be celebrating the DOBRADINHA (spelling?)

All in all we salvaged some pride that may have been lost 2 weeks ago. To bad Super Mario couldn't score on his supposed swan song.

OLE OLE OLE!!!!!

Which would you rather win, the league or the cup?

mmmmm that's a tough one.......

I knew you guys would "win" this one though, i had £500 on Porto to win at the bookies, i've now got almost £1000.

I'm just still in shock that we were permitted to win the league.

I'll be celerbrating harder than anyone - £500 better off.

The bookmaker offered me evens on each team to win. Doesn't know about the "special circumstances" in Portugal

Looks like your trying to hide the dissapointment eh Santamaria? Are you gonna blab on about the bookies every time Sporting lose eh?

I would never place against my team in a Cup Final, whatever the most likely outcome is :)

Just take the defeat like a man, not like Acosta :)

straight up man, i'll send you the slip if you like.

i'm an economist and it's called "hedging your bets". Whatever the outcome you are happy. It's only a "problem" betting against your team if you believe the action of doing so affects the outcome - my ego's not that big! In fact that wouldn't be a problem as you'd soon be a millionaire supporter of a 2nd division team - nice.

Seriously i didn't really care about the result when watching on saturday, watching the reply tonight.

And getting back to football (you greedy blokes, hehe) Porto deserved a title this season, they played very well in CL and had bad luck with the referee against Bayern.
And the score in the finalíssima could have been larger (is this the way you say it?).

Anyway, what I most loved to see, was Schmeichel in Porto's box, reaching for the ball with Baía by his side, haha!! I was sorry he didn't score, it would have been fun!! Not for being against Porto - but it isn't every day you see a goalkeeper scoring...

And yes, it's dobradinha. :)

Get a life. That is the sorriest speech I've heard in a long time. You won the cup and that is very nice. I'm quite happy with the league title.

What do you guys talk about all summer, now that PORTO is walking around with the Cup! Where do you get the inside scoops about who's going where and who's coming to the best team in Portugal.

Come on and give me some pointers!

I never thought I'd see the day when Porto were happy with the Cup. The Cup ain't the League and it never will be.

So they can keep saying they are the best team in Portugal.

If i was Inacio i would have taken the whole team off after about 65 mins.
