Record set

Portugal set a European Championship finals record for playing 392 minutes of football without conceding a goal until Thierry Henry's strike in the semi-final brought France level. The last goal they had conceded was against England in their opening game, when Steve McManaman's half-volley in the 18th minute hit the back of the Portuguese net.
The record for a single finals had been held by the Italy side of 1980, which went 323 minutes without conceding a goal until Czechoslovakia's Ladislav Jurkemik put the behind in the third-place play-off. That Italy team included the likes of Dino Zoff and Claudio Gentile, and the bulk of the team went on to capture the World Cup two years later.
