Porto's 2-0 win galvanises title race

LISBON, April 9 (Reuters)(DS) - Portuguese champions Porto
narrowed the gap with premier league leaders Sporting Lisbon to
two points on Sunday after a 2-0 home win over Salgueiros.
Sporting drew 1-1 on Friday at Uniao Leiria who scored the
equaliser one minute before the final whistle.
With five games left, Sporting remain on course for their
first title since 1982 and lead with 65 points, followed by
Porto on 63. Benfica, who beat Campomaiorense 4-2 away on
Saturday, are in third place with 60 points.
Porto, who last Tuesday drew at home with Bayern Munich in
the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final, opened the
scoring after 26 minutes with a shot from inside the area by
midfielder Rui Barros, who was returning from injury.
Just as the fans were beginning to jeer at the poor quality
of play, Porto sealed victory after a goalmouth scramble in the
69th minute when Brazilian striker Mario Jardel scored to take
his seaon's tally to 31 goals.
