ARSENAL hope to wrap up their protracted move for
Robert Pires in the very near future, but they face
competition in the race for Brazil's new striking sensation, Franca.

Marseille midfielder Pires was contacted by Arsene Wenger over the weekend,
and the Gunners boss assured him that he would be at Highbury next season,
patrolling the right flank for the North Londoners.

"I await the final answer on Monday," revealed the French international. "All
things being normal, it is okay." Both Marseille and the player are keen to
finalise the deal, which will be worth around £6 million to l'OM.

Meanwhile, Franca, the Sao Paulo forward who scored against England at
Wembley, is being targeted by Paris Saint Germain. Director Jean-Luc
Lamarche has been in South America, and seems determined to land the

The key to the deal could be former PSG skipper, Rai, who is currently with Sao
Paulo, as he will be hopeful of persuading Franca that he should ply his trade in
Le Championnat next season.

If Juventus are to get their way and force The Gunners to sell them Patrick
Vieira, then Wenger is tipped to move for Monaco's Sabri Lamouchi as a

Hmmmm, so that's sorted out then?

Great irony, the reliable footballplanet, hehehe

You seem to be a big Gunners fans Blitheid, youv'e started so many topics.

So the frenchman is very keen to settle this deal before Euro 2000.

Speaking of frenchmen, Sabri Lamouchi, although he's been linked with Arsenal, various sources are reporting he's set to sign for Parma.

It's all Arshole Wanker's fault
Robert Pires has turned down the chance to join the French Revolution at Arsenal and signed a five year contract with Real Madrid to start next season. The French international has won 34 caps and will move to the Bernabeu on June 30th for £6.25 million.
We shouldv'e signed Pires ages ago.

i heard that pires was going to be signed from marseille, but he stalled to see which club would offer him the most money
if he does this, i dont want him at arsenal
even tho he might be a good player, this kind of attitude sux
he said that arsenal was his dream club, now real madrid is because they offered more money

I think this is pretty official that Robert Pires has gone to Real Madrid for 8-million-pounds. He had chosen Real over Arsenal because they offered him more money. How much did Arsenal offer him?, I must have forgotten?, wasn't it 7.5-million-pounds?, what a big difference.

Pretty official, but not quite. It now seems that mr. pires will make his final decision in the wake of e2k, with overmars position as a factor. Hopefully, mr.pires will think very carefully about what mr.anel2ka and mr.karambeu has said, or not as the case may be.....

So there is still hope Pires will come to Higbury? :)
Mr Anelka is one big ******* :D
And Mr Karembue is a  to not only Real but also the French national team.
What the hell is Wenger doing  but Overmars is not  he's staying, 100% sure ;)

ROBERT PIRES is to snub Arsenal and sign for Real
Madrid on Thursday - ending a prolonged battle between
the two clubs for the services of the Marseille midfielder.

A move to Real has always been a dream of Pires', but he
came very close to switching to Highbury, to join Arsene Wenger's French legion
in North London. Much depended on Marc Overmars' future, and the confirmation
of the transfer to Real may be an indication that Lazio's offer for the Dutch winger
will be rebuffed.

Pires becomes the European champions' third signing of the summer, following
the purchase of Cesar Sanchez and Albert Celades. He will sign a five-year
contract, after Marseille accepted a £6 million bid from both Real and Arsenal.

The Gunners were in for one of their top targets up until the last lap of the
transfer race. Indeed, it is understood that they held discussions on Wednesday
with the representatives of the player, but his preference to move to Madrid has
prevailed, and Real's vice-president Juan Onieva has revealed that the deal is on
the verge of completion.

"Madrid is a great club, and that is what motivates me," said Pires. "At my age, I
want to win many titles. Next season, we will be in five competitions and, for that
reason, Vicente del Bosque wants to a have a very competitive squad."

The 26-year-old had carefully considered a switch to Arsenal, but he hinted a
short while ago that it could depend on whether Overmars was to depart for Italy.
The news that Pires is heading for Spain after all, may at least lead Gunners
fans to hope that their Dutch flyer will still be in a red and white shirt next

So, given the source I would say there is probably a 98.6% chance of him signing for us.

But even if he dosen't, we shouldn't feel too down, no doubt we will be able to sample his silky skills in the premiership within two years anyway....when he eventually makes his dream move to middleborough, his career in tatters.

We've got overmars.

Overmars, but for much longer?

Pires had a 6.6M£ clause to be freed by marseille.
I can't believe Arsene Wenger would give to Olympique Marseille 3.4M£ just to make them happy (they need money !)
