Pele last night named Zinedine Zidane as his star of Euro 2000.
Zidane is one of six French players in UEFA's all-star squad, named before the final.

Pele said: "Zidane has been the best player in the tournament.

"When he won the World Cup he was one of the best players - and he has maintained it. I hope he continues for 10 more years."

Pele picked the 16-man squad alongside Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier and former Scotland manager Andy Roxburgh, director of UEFA's technical study group.

Roxburgh said: "I'm certain Zidane has printed somewhere on him: Made in heaven.

"He is a bit like a French Pele. He has come from God. The game against Spain was one of the most sublime performances I've seen."

Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly, Arsenal duo Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry, and Manchester United keeper Fabien Barthez are the only Premiership players in the 16.

Toldo (Italy), Barthez (France)

Blanc, Desailly (France), Nesta, Cannavaro (Italy), F de Boer (Holland)

Vieira, Zidane (France), Figo (Portugal), Guardiola (Spain), Davids (Holland)

Henry (France), Kluivert (Holland), Gomes (Portugal), Raul (Spain)
