Im From Toronto, Canada and we have one of the biggest portuguese popluations in the world. Last Wednesday i was very upset to see that everybody was complaining about how Pauleta was an upset to the team and alot were saying how Futebol is not an acorean sport. Me being from Sao Miguel and knowing Pauleta's family would like to say........If it weren't for Pauleta and his huge heart, would you have that smile on your face today.
Viva Pauleta and Viva Acores. For once, we are in the spotlight and im loving every moment of it. : )

my family is also from sao miguel. Hell the only thing they do there is play futebol. The only reason why there isnt more acoreanos in the sellecao is because coaches and clubs barely never go there. The same can be said for madeira. Plus oppportunities are also harder there then on the mainlands. Acores only as one team in the high divisions, which is santa clara

you know what i do realize is that no matter how good pauleta does, people other then acoreanos, would rather see nuno in their then pauleta. The question that i am asking is, is it because pauleta is from the acores? And by judging that most of the port.USA in boston that are from the acores is yes. I know my whole entire families favorite player is pauleta, hell the guy gives the acores and portugal a great name.

I am from the mainland I love pauleta but I love nuno gomes to. I has nothing to do with islands or no islands but it seems that the island people favor him alot more then the rest of the team. Why is that are we all not portuguese? I think he is great but against the u.s he should of came of in the second half for nuno or played both because they work very well together.

Start them both...But Nuno is younger than Pauleta and I love Nuno because he is a Benfiquista but his time will come as well....I think he will be the X Factor this Friday....

we favor pauleta because everytime he accomplishes something he always is gracious enough to thank his fellow acoreanos. We are all portuguese yes, but as of right now nuno gomes as no spot in the starting 11 because of pauleta. And i am not saying that because i am acorean. And im not saying that everyone in the mainland feels that way, but there are alot, because i did hear it with my own ears

Maybe we Azoreans do like Pauleta little more than Nuno Gomes but that is because he is the only Azorean in the national team and all the Azoreans look up to him, because he represents the archipelago so well. We are all so proud to call him a fellow Azorean, from the way he carries himself on and off the field. He is an idole to all little boys and girls on the islands. You can't say that people from the mainland don't favor Nuno Gomes either, all I hear on this board is how Nuno Gomes should be the one up front instead of Pauleta. It doesn't matter who is up front as long they score lots of goals to make us all pround.

Exactly, I criticized Pauleta - but he could've come from Macau for all I care. I just thought his finishing was lousy on Wednesday against the U.S. We could've won that one too if he had been 'on' for just one of the chances he had. But hey, I made my peace in the thread I started about the man.

It's silly for a county as small as Portugal to have these regional "I'm better than you-isms"

Exactly. If we can't come together and forget all that regional rivalry or whatever, then maybe we don't deserve to win the WC.
We need the best of all of Portugal if we're going to win.

If we were to win it all, who would win the WC ?, only those from the Continente, or Acoreanos because Pauleta scored the most goals?

A Portugal without any one of its regions is not as strong.

-But him being Acoriano does make it sweeter, although it's like people from Figo's old neighborhood or Rui Costa's old neighborhood or section of Portugal. They happy cuz one of their own is rep-ing a team or in this matter country!

All in all I don't give a flying F*ck the bottom line is PORTUGAL! North, South, East, West...PORTUGAL!

If Nuno Gomes scores the game winner in the finals for us then I'll like him just as much!

I believe that Portugal is all equal no matter where your from. I
also believe that Pauleta deserves to be praised for that amazing
performance and since he was bashed by so many people last
wednesday, us Acoreans want everyone to eat their words for
saying Soccer wasn't an acorean sport. We breath, eat, sleep,
& **** soccer. We love soccer just like Canada loves hockey.
I believe that on Friday we will Kick Korea's ass and i
do believe that once again Pauleta will be great, but the
main thing is that Portugal wins because together we stand,
together we fall. We are all united, and on that note......
