REAL MADRID are hoping to clinch the signing of
Racing Santander striker Pedro Munitis for £9.3 million
after pulling out of a deal to sign Perez Munoz Alfonso
from Real Betis.

Madrid wanted Alfonso, but the Seville club slapped a
£14.9 million price tag on the Spanish international, and
thus switched their attentions to fellow international
striker Munitis.

Real Director of Sport, Jose Martinez Pirri has already
met with Munitis' agent Javier Gonzalez and Pirri's
assistant Pedro de Felipe met with with Gonzalez at the
Bernabeu on Friday to reaffirm the Whites' interest in the player who scored for
Spain against Yugoslavia.

Madrid look set to offer Munitis a four-year-contract and will delight the home
fans who have seen the Racing striker torment their side over the last few
seasons in Spain.

Munitis, who is seen as more of a Raul figure rather than an out and out striker,
scored six goals in La Liga lasts season.
