Paraguay international on the way.....

FC Porto are reportedly close to signing Paraguayan international Paredes ("Walls") to a contract. Paredes, who plays his club soccer in his home country of Paraguay, has been pursued by FC Porto since the World Cup in France. The deal is reportedly worth 2.5 million US dollars thereby matching the release clause in his current contract. Carlos Alberto Paredes (a.k.a Paredes), stands in at 1.81 meters and weighs 80 kilos and will be in the Paraguayan line-up today. Paraguay plays a World Cup qualifying match today against Uruguay.

Paredes has always been a favorite of Olímpia de Assunção (his club) president Osvaldo Dominguez. Dominguez was very reluctant to let go of his talented midfielder as many clubs in Europe were interested in securing his signature but was powerless to stop FC Porto from matching the minimum fee release clause in Paredes contract. Dominguez has went on the record and said he wants all the money immediately, which is odd because all transfers with FC Porto are supposed to remain quiet. FC Porto is listed on the stock market so comments such as those are usually not permitted.

Paredes captains his club and is a defensive midfielder. He is also a regular for the Paraguayan national selection.
