Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen was today given the all-clear following his injury scare.

The 22-year-old received a kick on his foot during the Champions League defeat at Bayer Leverkusen last night and manager Gerard Houllier had feared Owen could have broken his foot.

But after Owen underwent an X-ray this afternoon, Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton revealed Owen had suffered only bruising and would be fit to face Sunderland on Saturday.

``Michael was sent for an X-ray this afternoon as a precaution and it confirmed our initial thoughts that he had suffered bruising of his right foot,'' said Cotton.

``Michael will be available for this Saturday's game at Sunderland.''

Michael played last night in Liverpool’s dramatic defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League Quarter Finals.
